That guys looks aces!  Looks like he's calmly getting his men in order... :D

And I figured that's where the Sten came from.  Having spare weapons lying about sure comes in handy, doesn't it?

It certainly does Stanley!

So, todays offerings…..support or alternate section with Scot McShortbread….(yes, he’s descended from McShortbread as depicted in my Nap thread!)

We intend to play KvL at some point, and I will have limited supports, these being probably the backbone of what I can take.  Will probably look to the anti tank gun soon….

So, having had a good run the last few weeks at the airborne, I think I can relax a bit and concentrate on a few outstanding bits for this thread before moving onto another…

There is still the airborne anti tank gun to do.

Also been on the go a while, the German 105mm, a pair of carriers that Jamie painted for me a while back, but to which I have yet to finish the crews.

Then I may have a go at some scenery.   I have a few different sets of walls unpainted….would be good to get at least one of them done.

I also bought this Normandy barn from Grand Manner.   It may well mix in with my rural farm buildings.  It could do with a little farm clutter / machinery etc.   I have a tractor but if anyone can point me at other items of interest then please do so?

A few small blocks of wood with a tarpaulin (paper towel soaked in PVA glue) cover,
will do for a stack of hay bails. If you don't fix it to the floor it can be used elsewhere too.
Having seen a farmyard this week, I would suggest:-
old rusting wrecks (doesn't have to be recognizable, a few wheels & bits will do)
Chickens,
Oil drums that have seen better days,
stacks of wood, for the fire,
& hints as to the type of farm. Cows/ sheep/ arable etc.
e.g. sheep would have a place to dip them. Small pool/bath with gates & fences.

Yup, all great ideas thanks Pete.   It’s specifically the wrecks / machinery I’m after…. dated pieces of the right scale.   Any ideas?

Edit:

Another finished support…this time for the British Infantry.

Don’t know….but order enough and they may do you a deal?

Anyway, I’m not mad keen painting buildings, but I have come to realise that worse than painting a building, is painting a wrecked one! Lol

Anyway, it will do.   I will highlight the door when it dries and maybe add a touch of weathering powder when I can get outside.

Sorry about postomancy but what colours do you use for walls?

Errr…always a bit tricky to remember soecific buildings but typically for my walls :

Base colour zandri dust (GW)
Watered down wash of Agrax (GW)
Dry brush zandri dust
Dry brush flayed one flesh (GW)
Light dry brush in centre of panels in Ivory

Hope that helps?

Isn't that the truth. :D Somehow the first idea that comes to mind is that intact buildings were way harder to paint, but painting ruins bascially is twice the work really. Your ruin looks great though.

Re: CoC - Western Front - Pzr Lehr - fleshing out

Cheers fella.

Ok, so recently discussing Lehr with Jamie and then seeing Cpt Jim’s thread and use of the Wargames Atlantic models, I am going to try and flesh out the metals I have (a box of both Artizan and Warlord Lehr) with a few of the Atlantic minis, to try and get a cohesive enough platoon together, along with a few supports.   I’m not overly concerned with too many supports as I have plenty of armour, which truth be told, I want to use with the Lehr, but none the less, a few bits would be most welcome.

Steve Barber models has a “panzer Lehr” panzerschreck team…but the jacket is all wrong and as it’s my favourite support, never mind needing one for my hq section, I will be making a pair of teams.   I have ordered a few metal panzerschrecks from  the assault group, along with a tripod mounted MG, all of which will get plastic Wargames Atlantic crew so watch this space.

I received a couple of sprues of WA and first impressions leave me a little flat if I’m honest.   I kinda like the more heroic build of the metal minis from Artizan and Warlord, with these WA being a little slim.    Add to the fact they have little in the way of personal kit to bulk them out, it’s clear to feel happier with them, I will need to raid the bits box.

As well as supports, the main reason for getting the WA is to build a few more MG teams…..as the metal boxed sets I have effectively give me a team each….clearly not enough.

So first team is made.   As I’m worried how they will sit with the metals, where possible, I will try and combine a metal mini (choosing maybe the slimmer ones)  into a team to make them blend better.

This metal mini was carrying yet another Panzerfaust, a feature that repeats on an awful lot of the available metal minis!.  I simply carved it off and gave his an ammo box.

For the plastic figure, though the WA sprue comes with a couple of MG42’s, I prefer the look of the warlord ones, as well as the bulk of their arms, so I have used warlord.  Likewise, the bullet belt in the WA set is very small, so I used a spare warlord.   The WA holster is massive, so again, I used warlord.   I’m worried this may be a recurring theme…

Any gapping and mold lines will be sorted with a little gs before I paint them.

I also had a go at my first support….and engineering / flame thrower team.  This was straight forward enough…I used a few bits I had left over from the Warlord early war pioneer set, plus a warlord holster.  Will sort gapping out……but works ok for me.

So, I will post a few more as and when I get to them or the parts arrive.  I’m not convinced they will be a perfect shoe in, but beggars and choosers comes to mind.   If I want to field a reasonable looking Lehr force, I will need to resort to this.

Very intersting to hear your take on the WA boxed set. In general I'm all for WA and what they do (cluster-bomb us with plastics sets); naturally there's some hits and some misses. The Panzer Lehr box looked a bit dissatisfying to me from the pictures shown online, especially as we got so many great metal figures for late war germans anyway.

Anyway, the bases you put together there look really good so far.

It's interesting, because their Aztecs look chunky and well fed, the Lehr, not so much.

I think I would be hard pushed to want to build a force using them alone for sure.

To be fair, with these two additional teams, I now have everything for a core platoon except the Panzershreck…which is coming.

I have swapped the WA mg 42s for a couple of warlord and added warlord clutter.

Again, I need to fill a few gaps before painting, and I’m looking if I have another bullet belt to have hanging from the firing one……looks daft otherwise.

By mixing them directly with a few metals, I don’t think they will overly stand out.

It’s funny you say you were a little put off by the box?   I’m not the worlds best painter, but I do believe giving them a shiny look didn’t exactly help their cause.  I will reserve full judgement until I have added a little paint myself.   I’m hoping my dirty style of painting will make them look a little more “worn”.
