Salon de Guerre-Wargames room renovation part two
« on: 21 August 2020, 09:38:25 PM »

My “salon de Guerre“ Wargames room, will be the second one in France that I am aware of, the first of course is in Versailles palace, the other of course in in “l’hotel de Hercé” in sunny Mayenne!

I finally returned to work on the Wargames room restoration on the first floor this month after spending two months on the second floor renovations. We finally selected the colour combination after charging it from a darker scheme to a lighter putty colour and gold trim on the decorative wood work. The ceiling repair was a bit of work to get it 100%, I moved the communication cables and added the cat six cable in behind the skirting boards. The Exterior door repairs With some new glass and exterior waterproofing has to be done also. We opened up the fireplace again and it requires a little work before I fire can be lit in it again.

Overall very happy, still need to finish off the doors and some detail work, remove the heaters and paint behind them and put them back again (tomorrow’s job)  add the fabric to the large panel and the curtains (which Vanessa has made). The goal is to finish by next Wednesday.

A few photos of the progress, more on my blog http://stormandconquest.blogspot.com/2020/08/salon-de-guerre-wargames-room-part-two.html?m=1

Cheers
Matt

Yes, getting excited! The carpenter arrived yesterday with the 8 carved legs for the Wargames table and we had a frame mock up in the courtyard. He has done a supurb job on it. Hopefully show it off next week too.

Really fantastic. No doubt it will look just as impressive as (and be a lot more fun than) it's name sake at Versaille :D:

I do like the “salon de Guerre” at Versailles, and have seen some of the figures that were used there.

I am really looking forward to its completion, my mate who is a carpenter is helping with my permanent table, plus three collapsible tables

I think you are going to end up with something that is wonderfully unique- it's a beautiful room to start with.

Some more photos of the progress

Today I added the moloton (cotton wool wall fabric underlay) and completed the first piece of 18th century reproduction wall upholstery fabric. Nessa has completed the chandelier which I will hang tomorrow. A few more jobs to do.

Resetting fire bricks and a new decorative fire plate, then it can be used. We also need to clean out the chimney on the third and fourth floors, we have unblocked and repaired holes plus removed the 19th century heaters. Waiting for the roofer to come to open it up so the fire can be lit.

A painting that is stuck in Italy will adorn the central panel, plus I have decided to add more gold to the timber work and a gold woven trim to the edge.

Matt,

Absolutely stunning.
Your dedication is truly noteworthy.

(I'd much prefer gaming at your place than Versailles... unless you also have two thousand Chinese tourists crammed into your place.)

Looks good Matt :)
Make sure the chimney is properly sealed, you don’t want all that hard work ,or yourselves up in smoke (worked on a Victorian two storey chimney for just that reason).

We have a chimney inspection guy coming in October with a camera, we have opened three others also, plus we have to have it inspected for insurance.

Oiling and waxing the floors this week, plus picked up some nicer appliqué lights for the walls, one pair of doors are awaiting final paint (waiting for the installation of the fibre, which is being installed in the street this week. )

Have had three games so far in the last two weeks too!

Cheers
Matt
