From Box to Table 28mm Carthaginian Foot Painting Tutorial
« on: August 31, 2020, 05:14:44 PM »

https://yarkshiregamer.blogspot.com/2020/08/from-box-to-table-28mm-carthaginian.html

It's been a long time since I did a Box to Table feature at Yarkshire Gamer and the recent increase in my Utubes use made me consider doing some more but this time in full on Yarkshire TV vision.

Split over 3 videos I've covered everything from prep of the figures through the painting process to the finished figure. I amazed myself with how little I use detail brushes.

Hope it's of some help to people.

Regards Ken

Really enjoyed your videos which were both amusing and nicely put together by the way....we all have our own way of doing things but it’s always fascinating to see how others get a great result...thanks for sharing....as a result I might give one of those Prolene brushes a go

Great stuff.

Nice to see someone else from the manky brush and covering over mistakes later school of painting. Most tutorials are so impossibly pristine.

Thanks Monkeylite, the perfect tutorial videos are foremost in my mind when I do mine. I've spoken to new gamers who spend a lifetime trying to get one figure absolutely right and struggle to do a couple of minis a month.

If I can encourage people to develop good technique to produce volume with reasonable quality we might see some old school big games again instead of the 10 figure skirmish games that are the "in" game these days.

Interesting.  I also use the ugly brush and cover it over later method!

To help me with this, I was always taught to paint the lowest parts first and then move upward!  I.e. on these Carthaginian Veterans I would start with the skin, then the linens, the chain, and finally the straps and such, then touch up the chain where I messed up the straps.  You seemed to go the opposite direction.

Interesting to see how it is done.

Great stuff - a Carthaginian Army has long been on the "must do" list. This is further encouragement to get some figures along with some Roman opponents

Many thanks,

I think the choice is made by the techniques you want to use. If I'm drybrushing that means the largest areas are going to get done first so it doesnt matter of I get some on areas I haven't painted. Imagine doing a lovely face and then dry brushing channel all over it  :-X

There are so many ways to paint a figure and you just need to pick the best bits for you, try another method and see if it works, you might just take 10% of that technique but it will develop yoir style.
