28mm War of the Roses?
« on: 08 September 2020, 02:23:12 PM »
Hello,
Besides, Perry miniatures, are there any other 28mm miniatures for the War of the Roses?
Thank you

There is also Old Glory (link is to the US site but there's a UK site too:
https://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=180

Essex do a few too but I couldn't really see any examples of photos on their site.

Both are what one might be tempted to describe as old school when compared to the Perry and Front Rank ranges. I've used from of the Old Glory casualties from their Ward of the Roses range before.

Don't forget the small late medieval range from Steel Fist Miniatures:

Those foot knights are right there for WotR, and size-wise very good fit for Perry and Crusader WotR ranges.

I've plundered some of the Casting Room miniatures stuff for a few specific extras (e.g., peasants/townsfolk):

Likewise Mirliton might have a few character figures that could provide a bit of variety:

For the Essex Miniatures, check out their 'Later Period' section, and flick to the end pages & refer to the dates mentioned in some of the descriptions:

1st Corps/Curteys - perhaps possible to use their Hussite-era stuff for early WotR 1440-1460ish?

LCpl McDoom... What do you think, Would the Mirtilton would fit in with Perry miniatures?

The crusader, steel fist and mirliton match the Perry figures nicely

Here are some Perry and Mirliton (ex-Grenadier) figures I painted last year, mixed in together.
They’re a pretty good fit (size and stature wise, anyway).

Good to know about Mirliton Captain Blood.

I had at one time a WotR army made up entirely of Old Glory figures.  It was a really nice army.  But I sold it.  When I started again, I started using Perry plastics.  The Old Glory figures are visibly smaller than the Perry stuff when next to each other.

Had to comment on this as it popped up on google so must still be relevant...just received a large order of  Front Rank WotR (the entire range...) and I must tell you I am quite impressed. They must be the nicest metal figures I've ever seen in 25 years, (not flawless in every category, but as a final sculpt presentation) rivalling the best of oldschool GW. For historicals, I've never seen so much charm, something the Perry's trade off in favor of authenticity IMO (don't attack me, I make frequent contributions to them :D)
The extra weight and chunkiness makes them feel less flimsy than Perry, and they are just oozing with character due to the slightly exaggerated features. I would rank them definitely below "heroic", and just half a step above "Perry realism", so in line with other quality ranges but pushed a tad further for that character/charm. Simply incredibly. I can see what people mean when I often see the addage on TMP that "Front Rank figures paint themselves". I will likely be starting a thread about the project soon when I get everything sorted!
Captain Blood just sold me on the Perry's though, so I've ordered their whole range as well :D
