The Russian VDU attack in the north of the city was finally gaining momentum and driving back the Bundeswehr. Although the Germans were making the orcs pay dearly, weight of numbers was taking its toll.

Once the VDU had reached the residential tower block, they were able to bring deadly anti-tank fire down on NATO’s armoured elements in the street below. RPG fire destroyed a T-64 and a Bradley AFV. The remaining Bradley debused its infantry to take up firing positions near the fuel station.

As the first Russian T-80 MBT burst through the improvised roadblock, it was struck by combined fire from the German Leopard 2 and the remaining Latvian T-64, destroying the vehicle and tossing the turret in spectacular style.

Given the deteriorating defensive position, NATO’s commander ordered a tactical withdrawal from the combat zone via the only safe route to the west of the city. The Leopard 2 conducted a fine rearguard action to assist the orderly withdrawal. For now, this sector of the city was in Russian hands.
