Fiber door mats as modular terrain tiles?
« on: November 02, 2020, 03:51:45 PM »
They've been around forever, and used to make lay-on field pieces from, but has anyone here ever used the mats complete as the foundation for terrain tiles?

If so, I have some questions....

Can the fibers be dyed/colorized?

Can roads be 'ground' out down to the mat's rubber backing, and if a technique works well to do this, what tool has been found to work best for this?

Normally not that good of an idea.

Most uses for them tend to be as fields rather than as tiles because they tend to need reinforcing with something more solid to make them work there.

They also shed a lot, which can be used for things like haystacks, but can be a mess

Thanks SotF!

I think you're right, and even if the mat sections were used as major terrain 'parts' (like being affixed onto MDF boards), there's Teddy Bear Fur elements that work as nice or better, and are easier to work with.

Again, appreciate your input.
