I picked up the first FFOL awhile ago but have not played it often.  We will have to look into the Galactic Heroes flavor for SciFi skirmish gaming.

Syrinx0. please do.  I really like the FFofL stable of rules. They aim for a fun,
easy to pick up & play game. Many years ago, frustrated by the increasingly complicated WW2 rules then available, a friend & I sat down and wrote a set.
At his suggestion we started with 'What are we likely to put on the table'.
(In our case that was 1 or 2 vehicles & 10 to 20 infantry a side).  We went
out of our way to keep the during the game work to a minimum. We did
not cover every aspect, eg snow, dust storms etc. etc. What we did do
was (as well as a nice basic set of rules) a FEW scenario specific extra rules.
FFofL has a similar approach. I feel free to introduce a rule or two, just for that scenario.  I like the fact that my head is not frequently stuck in a book looking for THAT particular rule. I find myself spending more time looking at the nice game & actually thinking about what I should do next.
Happy times.
It also takes little time to set up a game. Rogue Stars, though a very well thought out game, just does my head in!  The (few) times I have played it
have involved HOURS of preparation, much time with head in book looking
for THAT particular rule, (At which point I normally find two other rules I SHOULD have been using instead)  No joy there.
