Gents,

I've cobbled together some thoughts on campaigning and utilising an ingenious narrative campaign method tweaked for purpose.

Our campaign is set in the Seven Years War based around the 1759 French offensive in Western Germany.

The initial post describes the campaign, with the follow on post kicking off the campaign and with the first battle having been fought.

We find this a most useful campaign method for running and organising games for structured scenario play based on real forces in theatre. Really the only thing missing is a map and cunning map moves all of which can require a burden on campaign organisers that often result in campaigns fizzling out.

I trust they'll be some useful ideas in there.

Cheers

Happy Wanderer

Ps - I know there are no sexy 'lead pics' in this post but I thought ideas for the use of such might still be a useful post for people to check out :)

I’m using the same ‘Snakes and Ladders’ system for my own ECW campaign.

It’s a really enjoyable system.

I’m presently painting minis for battle 2.

I'd like to know more about your cards; how many in the deck, what kinds, etc.

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Thanks for your comments guys.

Vincent, you can download all the cards on the HoW forum where my article is posted.

Look under the campaign track for the link.

@ Silent Invader

Your ECW campaign looks very cool. For an opposed campaign the injection of cards adds a nice ‘bluff’ element to the S&L method.

I’ll be following to see how you get on. I’m a big fan of cards for bluffing etc so that’s a really nice addition for multi player campaigns.  8)

Gents,

The campaign continues. The second battle has been fought. This time between the Hessians under the command of Ferdinand of Brunswick and the Saxon foreign contingent in Marshal Contades French army.

Lots of action and pics…

Enjoy

Cool!  8)

I very much like your ‘small war’ and ‘battle loop’ additions to the campaign rules.  8)

That TTS set up looks pretty good.
I've played a few AWI Games on there but not noticed the SYW figures. They look much "cleaner" and the whole table much clearer than the one we used.

Off to have a look at your blog. Good work man!

I think these are good additions. We don't want campaigns going on forever so this should do the job.

The look is much cleaner indeed. I was after a kind of 25mm on table 'toy soldier' type look - suits the period a bit. The table is a custom made image and the tabletop is a 3D custom model 'sculpted'...so no lay on terrain. The overall effect is of a more natural looking tabletop and and a homogenous look to it all.

Off to have a look at your blog. Good work man!

..report back ;)

Reporting back.....

Printed out the rules, table and cards.....I'd tried to do something similar with cards a while ago but just couldn't quite get it to work. The ladder works perfectly with them and both are well produced as are the accompanying scenarios. I liked them so much I ordered sleeves for the cards.... :D

Love the blog.....a deeper delve is commencing.

And yes.....homogenous ...that's the word!

Hi Emir,

Glad you think it worth a try..it works! Simple and effective...not the final word but a nice easy filler for stringing those games together...would work for any period  ;)

FYI
The campaign track has been updated. I've tweaked the file on the original post. You can grab it here.

Scroll down to the "Snakes & Ladders campaign track" - the update incorporates a few tweaks we've made as we go along.

Cheers

Gents,

Battle three in the ongoing S&L campaign of the French vs Anglo-German armies circa summer, 1759.

Lots of action in this one with a few twists and turns…

Feel free to drop in and check it out ;-)

Cheers  ;)
