Lovely work Helen, Its great to see the whole collection so far. Its coming along very nicely.

Back in the 90s I did an Isandlwana project using Redoubt Miniatures, I've still got the figures all boxed up stashed away!

By most accounts the rockets were inaccurate and unreliable. I think the British knew this going in, but it was felt because they made a lot of showy noise, flash and smoke, that they would have a great morale effect on unsophisticated enemies, which the Zulus were imagined to be. Didn't seem to work out that way, mind, as they remained distinctly unimpressed by them.


I think they would have seen much wider use later on in other campaigns, if they had been considered a success. But hey, who wouldn't want some in their war games army? I know I would.

The Book I've shown I've read and really doesn't share much new light on the man himself. The author is a descendent and lives in sunny Queensland, Australia. My thoughts are that the book although not ground-breaking in any new discoveries can still stand beside any other book of the period on your bookshelf.

Army Service Corps (ASC):

There was at least three if not four ASC personnel at Isandlawana.

Some modelling was required for this miniature. Miniature taken from the Perry Miniatures British Intervention Artillery code.

He's a characterful fellow, isn't he? How much conversion work was required? (not especially familiar with that range) Lovely colours on those horses earlier, too.

Dylan, Yes, he is lovely. That's why I looked to have this miniature converted. I remove all the additional piping and buttons. Added some green putty for the two buttons at the back of the coat and added good conduct/long service stripes on the sleeve.
