Wonderful work! An inspirational project.

Re civilians there are a few Oriental Civilians in the Scotia Grendel "Tales of the Dragon Kings" Fantasy range that may be useful.

Cheers

Fantastic looking KNIL and project.

What colours did you use for the uniform? That green is something else.

Thanks for all the comments, as per usual!

What colours did you use for the uniform? That green is something else.

It's taken a while to get the recipe "right", so there have been a few iterations since I started.
I often find people either make them too green or too dark.

My recipe is:
  • White Primer
  • Base coat of Army Green (The Army Painter - Warpaints)
  • Full coat of Plaguebearer Flesh (Citadel Contrast)
  • Highlight of 60/40 Army Green (Warpaints) & Camo Green (Citadel)
  • Final Highlight of Camo Green Citadel)

I think the most important step is the contrast paint, which changes the 'tone' of the Army Green basecoat into the KNIL Green you see in the pictures.

"Austrian Sailors", according to the OG web site.

The very nicely painted sailors look like Old Glory figures from their Boxer Rebellion range. Possibly German sailors by the cap design.

Thank you both - I will certainly be buying some more in the future!

You mentioned in a recent post about heavier weathering on the buildings and as I was reading through all the pages and buildings you'd completed that thought occupied to me as well. However looking at the pictures of the town as a unit in my opinion it all comes together as a stylistic whole.
It may not be hyper realistic but it does look bloody gorgeous.

You are very kind - I am very slowly adding just a bit more weathering every so often. It's so easy to over-weather, so I am going bit by bit until I'm happy.

As for civilians, what about some American West civvies?  I know that's a few years before your timeframe, but some of them would work in the warmer climes.

Thanks for all the suggestions gents!

Best,
Shtim
