Test of Honour - a few new buildings
« on: April 19, 2021, 06:39:38 PM »
Yup, a little heard of (well, not at all!) clan for scrapping in Feudal Japan.

Vodkafan and HasBeen only had to mention the chance of playing a little Samurai shenanigans and I’m sold....actually, I’m very easily sold these days...doesn’t take much!

I used to play the original role play game Bushido in my youth, some 35 years since, but I do love the idea of doing a small project (yes, I know, to add to a myriad of other small projects).

I don’t even really know what rules we will be playing, but I’m basing the minis individually then popping them on suitable sabot bases....

I think I’m having to catch up as there seems to be a few painted minis already coming out of the store cupboard.

I had a half painted mini so finished that off!

Unfortunately, he’s not put his armour on yet, so I need to get a few better equipped Samurai warriors.

However, before that, I thought I’d collect and paint a few foot soldiers, so I bought a few Ashigaru with teppo and with yari.

Starting with the arquebusiers, I cleaned up and based the Perry minis......I do like their minis, but BLOODY HELL!  why can’t their casting be better?!!

Anyway, finally done.

So...how to paint them?   I pondered a bit, James is doing his Blue (I’m crap at blue anyway) and Peter has both red and green troops!  I really like red...so instead of black armour and red tunic, I’m reversing that and opting for a red armour.

So here I am at the start.....base red applied.

Great start.

When you said small project and skirmish, I was thinking about 6 figures. You are already double that!

Very nice start! Really like the red. Looks to be a good solid smooth base coat over black. Which for a red is impressive. Which brand do you use?

As for rules, there is Ronin, which is a brilliant skirmish game. Also some people have made Saga boards for Japan's clans. So that could be worth checking out.

Cheers guys...early doors but I am working on these tonight.

For the red, I use Mephiston red GW paint as a base.

Rules wise I think the guys are looking at a modified Pikemans Lament but I have a copy of Ronin.....wouldn’t mind doing that at some point.

And Fred...did I say “ skirmish?”.......I think I said “ shenanigans”!    ;)

To show progress with this project.
First up three new paint jobs, to bring a 9 figure unit up to 12 figures.
Behind them, and in the following three pictures are the 9, all now based
on 25mm square bases.
The penultimate picture is of the figures that have been waiting, far too
long on the shelf, for some table-top action (hopefully Friday guys).
Oops, I've missed out the Cavalry & the General with his screen. Ah
well should get in front of the camera Friday.

The last picture is of the other three recent paint jobs. Not quite
finished, but fairly close.

Ha!  My fella can take em all on!  lol

Just a bit for me to do to catch up then!

And if 12 man units is the norm....I already have to buy a few to make up my Ashigaru units!    Bugger!

I knew it! I called it two days ago...
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

I’m not sure these will come to much, but whilst looking through my garage, I found a batch of minis I once planned for mythical Japanese gaming ( I got them after I stopped playing Bushido for which they were great!  :? )

They include oni, killer frogs, turtle dragon, naga, oriental dragon, female monk etc

David I too have some Japanese Mythical figures.
I was thinking of them as a mini project after I've
finished off the human stuff (A few figures & MDF
buildings).

Did you keep any of the walls and building you started collecting.
