Ogrob's medievals - Lots of things assembled 6/2 -22

Here we go again, another project, another thread.

A while back one of my gaming buddies brought up the idea of playing something medieval, and I, having just seen Captain Blood's fantastic Fistful of Lead battle reports and always eager to buy more Claymore Castings, jumped right in. We're a little fuzzy on the details, but we might play fistful of Lead or the new Baron's War rules at some point. Until then I'll just have a good time painting knights.

At first I thought of making these spanish as my buddy wanted 100 year war french, and I didn't want more longbows (there's 50 odd in my Game of Thrones force alone). Then I decided I can't be bothered with historical accuracy and just picked a colour scheme that I liked and that's that. They might be french, they might be german, they might be burgundian.

So here is what I've done so far:

More to come for sure, I have a bunch of figures in various stages of completion, including Claymore's fantastic mounted men at arms.

I really like how they have turned out so far. A great looking retinue with a well-painted coat of arms. Like you, I prefer not to get caught up too much in whether something is historically accurate or not - as long as it looks good and is near enough and the miniatures are playable then I am fine.

Great job so far! Are the javelin arms from the Victrix Irish?

Hands and bucklers are from Wargames Atlantic irish, cut onto the gambessoned Perry arms. The lad on the right has a Victrix viking arm.

The hands fit really well on the Perry arms too, they work great together

Thanks fellas! For the bases I have grownvery fond of these 2mm tufts, I like the stubby, almost mossy look. I get them from Gamer's Grass, they have both the tiny little individual tufts and the larger irregular shapes.

Update time! I have completed the next set of figures for this project, this time mostly mounted knights.

These three are Perry, two plastics (I decided on heater shields across the board for more cohesion) and one of the free metal knights I got with their Agincourt kit pre-order. I cut the plume of his bacinet, I think he looks better this way:


This lad is a Perry kitbash, inspired by medieval and renaissance depictions of St Maurice. Perry Ansar head with a greenstuff hat:


Both of these are metal, one from Claymore Castings and the other one of Wargames Illustrated's icon range:


And finally the free Sergeant that came with Footsore's Baron's War pre-order:

The conversions are really effective!

Rookie question but how difficult was it to head-swap the St. Maurice figure? You've done a really clean job scooping out the old helmeted head from the gorget there!

Pretty easy, it's a relatively clean line to follow with an x-acto blade. The head needs a bit of trimming as well to sink it a little bit into the gorget.

I'm loving this 'rule of cool' idea of using historical models a historically. I've got a ton of Footsore Baron's War models on the way and am inspired to do something similar. Also, the Westfalia fantasy hero looks perfect with this lineup. Oddly enough the Westfalia site lists her as 32mm, but she doesn't seem any larger than the others?

I would say she fits right in with the Perrys which are bang on 28mm to the eye. The Claymore are ever so slightly smaller and the V&V just a little larger, but all far from 32mm.
