Battle of Barnet: #worldwarroses
« on: May 22, 2021, 06:38:05 AM »
It’s the #worldwarroses event today and TWD and myself are meeting up for a refight of Barnet 1471.  This battle has always fascinated me, having grown up near Warwick but being a Yorkist sympathiser at heart.  I’ve been busy working on command stands for the main protagonists as well as some extra bill and bow.  Here’s a few posed shots prior to setting out the main battle that owe more than a little to the amazing paintings of Graham Turner. (Before anyone asks, the fog is neither a year’s collection on navel fluff nor the packing material from Perry metals; it’s soft toy stuffing). TWD and I will add a battle report later!

Figures are Perry plastics with some Old Glory metals; flags are from Freezywater with some painting over; background is a download from the Jon Hodgson Maps Patreon site.

Excellent, probably my favourite battle from the period too.  Let's hope the traitor gets his come-uppance again.

Some excellent pictures there , the Hodgsons are very atmospheric, lends the whole thing a sense of reality
I have a bad case of prescient nostalgia. The future's not what it used to be.

Clever mist effect!   My report is at https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=128570.90 (pp. 7, 8).

The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Lovely job, the mist and background pic make for a superb atmospheric shot - very nicely done. Look forwards to the report.

Excellent, but I hope no soft toys were damaged in the making of these scenes.

Warwick had a penchant for skinning teddy bears to use as his kriegspiel cloths.  This was an ideal use for the stuffing 🐻

That’s high praise!  I fear that, in Barnet - the movie, the battle would be preceded by a battery of trebuchets on both sides throwing flaming barrels of gunpowder at each other, followed by Eddie charging into battle on a warhorse and single handedly killing Warwick with a spiked flail.  Maybe I dreamt that bit. 😂

Nope. A perfect prediction. Let's hope they don't make that movie!
