Maybe using plastic water-mains pipes or 2L coke bottles chopped and re-shaped as a basis?

That might have worked very well!  :D

I'm waiting for the happy day when Peter Jackson gives Dune the epic trilogy treatment he gave LOTR.
Now that would be a vision of Frank Herbert's universe worth seeing...
Perhaps I'll write to him and suggest it  ;)

You're not the only one thinking this! :o :-*

Very nice conversions, really captured the David Linch Dune re: fremen.

I'd have gone for the necroduma van saar personally as the still suits are already there, maybe add robes and headscarves in a similar manner as General Grevious droid bodyguards, (ie very desert nomad).

The Harkonen look reasonably milliant in there design, nice us of one of the pigiron heads on the imperial guard.

And really like the abuse of that car model and the flyer is inspirational. Who'd have thought.... just turn that smile upsidedown!

I too would have preferred more arab/tuareg like robes and headgear.
F.y.o. the sandpeople in 'Star Wars' as originally envisaged by conceptual artist Ralph McQuarrie drew heavy inspiration from James Herbert's descriptions of the Fremen, even down to the face coverings and flowing robes-  though they subsequently evolved into humanoid creatures.
I admire this chap's utter dedication to the concept and the quality of his conversions - quite inspirational. I always thought though that the only way to wargame Dune properly would be in (Heresy!) :o :o :o 15mm or smaller, to enable the worms to feature properly. Even then they'd be massive!

It is a very impressive army, lots of good ideas and a lot of great conversion work.

It doesn't quite match up with my visions of the Fremen or Sardaukar either though.

I grew up playing the Dune II RTS game, and then later read the first book, in that game the fremen, while weapons wise are a little off (rocket launchers), they are fully robed up and everything.

The Sardaukar on the other hand, are high tech battle armour, the best the Emperor can afford.

Also the more time I spend looking at real/non-heroic scaled models, which I've been doing a lot of since stopping playing the Evil Empire games, the weirder and more noticable "heroic" scale models look.
