Chinese Machine Shop
« on: June 13, 2021, 09:40:29 AM »
I finally finished a Chinese machine shop that I have been working on for the last year. I had been working on it as a major setting for a Pulp/Back of Beyond game with a good friend. Unfortunately, my buddy unexpectedly passed away a couple of weeks ago before we could play a single game. I sourced the work bench elements from Rusty Rail and the machine tools from Narrow Gauge Modeling Company. The building and yard area is a resin casting off of eBay. I imagine they initially conceived it as a Peninsular or Caribbean building but I instantly saw that it belonged in China.

The parts bin and work bench area.

Solvent tanks and acetylene torches at the entrance of the machine shop.

Inside the shop, the bench, drill press, and grinder.

I always try to have what I consider realistic economic and social elements in my games and this was the first of a series of Chinese businesses that I was planning on building, probably to go on hold now  :?
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Brilliant - super-detailing like this is the extra touch of magic for a game. Now to find the same kit in 1/32nd...

Sorry to hear about your pal - play the game in his memory.

That's excellent Lon.  Lovely pieces and detailing.  I like the trees and truck as well.  They certainly help give an eastern look.

Sorry to hear about your mate.  That's sad news.  I hope you can complete the project.

Lon, that's bloody brilliant. I applaud your imagination in even considering such a piece, simply inspired.

My deep felt condolences too

Different item, but there is a water drum in this set, along with many other post apoc essentials.

Thanks fellas!
Kikuchiyo the solvent barrels are from rusty rail. They have a number of castings that would work well in post-appoc worlds https://www.rustyrail.com/oscaleshopparts.html

Thanks for the links - couple of great sources of bits and pieces - if only they were 1/32nd. Looking at the measurements there are some items I think could be used alongside 54mm figures - just smaller versions of the actual kit.

Nice work! It needs a lathe as the knee mill is good for a great deal of work, but a lathe makes it easier. Of course there is the problem of having a playable space inside, so.....
