Plains Wars in 15mm?
« on: 16 July 2021, 03:48:17 AM »
Who makes the finest figures for refighting the Plains Wars in 15mm please?   I'm thinking of my next project as a Custer's Last Stand/She Wore a Yellow Ribbon theme, in the grand manor. So it'll need Cavalry, Indians, all the bits and bobs for an Indian village and a wagon train to massacree!
Any advice as to the nicest figures to accomplish this would be most appreciated.

Blue Moon have everything you need for that! If I was going to do a similar project I'd go for them. (I have considered it but have too much else on the go!)

As beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, check out some other suppliers too. Here’s a couple of links:

All good recommendations.
For rules I hope you are going to use, 'Pony Wars, or
B troop ain't coming back'. A cracking & recently
re-released set of rules too (Cavalry) Boot.

Minifigs are very nice for the Plains Wars, also QRF and Peter Pig.  My collection is comprised of all three.

For rules Yellow Ribbon from QRF is excellent.  There is also a scenario booklet called Continually Wear the Blue.  Both very affordable.

QRF are lovely but will look like 12 year olds next to blue moon - but they look spot on for trudging across the plains. Yellow Ribbon rather than Fort Apache

I had asked the question if people were to start plains wars a couple years ago what they would use. Blue Moon for figs and Yellow ribbon for rules were the consensus. I loaded up with both. Have yet to do anything with the stuff, but soon.

Why are these rules considered 'go to'...
I'm most intrigued?

They are considered to be the most realistic for Indian Wars.
The Native Americans are not played by anyone they just react to
what the cavalry player is doing and what is happening in the game.
Rules for the Indian Wars are really hard to do because the Native American
fought so differently and for such different reasons than the US cavalry.

I have tried the rules but they weren't to my taste but most everyone else swears
by them.

Pony Wars is more Hollywood than History,
but still a great fun game. :)

Is it out yet? The release was supposed to be before Christmas but it has been painfully drawn out despite no changes to the original text  :(

Newline do a 20mm range if you want to go a bit bigger.

Sorry, but as I still have my original copy
& a bag full of 6mm figures (unpainted) I
haven't paid much attention to the launch.
