New Spider from Reaper
« on: August 01, 2021, 04:10:36 PM »
This is Arakoth the Ancient from the Reaper Bones 5 Kickstarter.  I have done most of the painting in thinned down washes using regular paints.  Still has some work to be done.  As you can see from the photos it is a big model and needed to be painted in pieces before assembly.  My only complaint about the whole thing was that the details on the skulls on the base was a bit soft so I replaced all of them.  The new Bones Black material is much better than the Bones white.  It still does not like to be filed but you can plane the mould lines with the flat of the blade and it is almost as sturdy as a regular plastic miniature.

There are a few more photos on my blog but I still have some work to do before it is finished.

Nice work on this Snitcy. I hope you won't be offended that I like the painting on the base even better than the spider
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Thanks for the compliments.  No worries about liking the base more.  I am quite happy with how it turned out.

Well my arachnophobia is kicking in, so you clearly did a good job mate!

We have one of those coming with our pledge and whilst I dread painting it, my son loves spiders so should be happy to see it.

Cool. I got that one too, still awaiting arrival though. Great to see it in scale. It's a beast!

Love your paint scheme.

Still trying to decide what colour(s) to paint mine. Currently it's undercoated in black whilst I seek inspiration!

They tend to release the kickstarter minis over the next year or two.  If you go on the Reaper site right now you can still order one at the KS price of $10.00.  If you order later the price usually goes up by about 20-50%.

Really nice. I wish I could get some giant spiders but I'm a badly arachnophobic and can't deal with them. The only ones I have and that I can handle is those stupid GW spiders because they look stupid. Anything more realistic and they terrify me.

You and me both melni…..great work here though.  The pictures are very unsettling so the paintwork is really doing it’s job!
