Very interesting report and great pics - the blue on the Berbers is stunning! May I ask you what did you use for the Italian cavalry?
And I agree with you that the details of the real story are quite unsavory...

Missed some of the later comments so apologies there.
The rules were our own WWII set tweaked for the game
The mat is a Cigar Box Battles one, they are a US company but North Star act as an agent (or used to)
The Berbers are mainly Artizan and Redoubt
The cavalry are Perry ACW modified with Empress heads
