King Matar of Paneer's Indian Army (updated 14/9/21)
« on: August 12, 2021, 03:42:42 PM »
I'm in the process of finishing a TtS! Indian army for a tournament on September 4th and another on the 25th; it's a tight deadline but most of the minis have already been painted for me by Dan Toone and Shaun McTague, so it's just highlighting, basing and flocking.

Above are the chariots, light longbows and compulsory rubbish cavalry. Below is a closeup of the spearmen, I've hand-painted most of the shields.

The bulk of the army are elephants and longbows, of course, I'll post images of them later on. There's a bit more about them (and the tournaments) on t' blog; it will (eventually) be a huge army.

I like the mixed shields in monochrome. I will have to steal that! I wish I didn't hate making chariots so much. I so want to someday have some decent Indian chariots available. Yours all look so great.

Thanks- the Vendel chariots are such nice models, JJ, that I have bought a dozen of them. :)

Steady progress with my Indian army for our September tournaments. All of the minis are now on bases and it's now mostly just a matter of finishing painting and flocking the latter, and finishing the elephants (not shown). There's more on t'blog at https://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2021/08/simons-tournament-army-ii.html.

Simon, lovely looking army. I have thought about a "classical Indian" army for several years but have never found a full range of figures. I did spot some about a year ago but they seem to have disappeared without trace. Whose figures do you use?

Thanks.

Thanks, they are a mix of Vendels and temporarily oop The Miniature Company minis, which I seem to have bought an unfeasibly large number of, with a view to doing the Hydaspes one day. Nice minis, they are! Dave at TMC filled some of the gaps in the Vendel range, the priests and casualties, and the two ranges work well together. He has a nice Poros mini that I covet.

Simon, thanks.  I think it is The Miniature Company that I was thinking  of. You say "temporarily out-of-production". Do you have any insight as to when they may be available again?

IIRC he's busy at the moment but says he will get them back in production at some point.
