Another confusion: Page 36 defines Grand Batteries, but I cannot see what they are supposed to be in the rules.

I found this! Although Grand batteries are in the advanced rules, the rules for what they do are in the standard rules!

Another find - right at the very end of the last phase of the turn(combat) there is a paragraph stating that unit status improves automatically at the end of the command phase, which is the first phase! Not sure if this is a typo and units improve at the end of the combat phase, or the wording is in wrong section. Luckily - I don't think this makes a difference, but it does sum up the problems with the rule book.

We’ve played Blucher , and like it , indeed I like all of Sam Mustafa’s games . Could you use the Cards from Blucher to play Absolute Emperor ?  That might be a way to test the system without collecting and painting figures.

I have used home-made cards to test new rules on occasion. I lured a board-gaming friend to the dark side with cardboard DBA pieces labeled Blade, Spear, etc. He now owns many tin armies.
It beats buying and painting figures to discover you think the chosen rules suck.
Play first, buy/paint later says I. Or at least test the rules with cardboard before basing the figures.

And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss
