Absolute Emperor Scenario: Mincio (1814)
« on: October 21, 2021, 03:46:57 AM »
Been having a hoot shoving Divisions around the tabletop using Osprey's "Absolute Emperor".  It's a game that really shines when you've got complicated strategic situations and units running all over the tabletop.  So I went out and stole - er, borrowed - some inspiration from the guys over at Napoleonic Scenarios

For my first outing, I took a late war battle from Northern Italy that features a lot of moving parts.  The Austrians and French both sort of stagger into the battlefield, throwing troops in as they can.

Both armies start straddling the Mincio River, and that causes some real disruptions in command.  In Absolute Emperor terms it means that you might have units enter the battle way out of position and scramble to get into command radius, or blunder into the enemy along the way.  Which could upset plans on both side of the river and on both sides of the conflict.  All-in-all a much more interesting fight than two 100-point armies clashing over symmetric terrain.

The troops numbers here are relative, and some fudging was necessary to keep things manageable for a two-player game.  Hopefully this presents an interesting challenge for both players, even if it isn't balanced to a razor's edge.

Full details on the scenario here -> Mincio River Scenario
Feel free to let me know if I've done anything egregiously wrong.

Thanks, Norm.
I think I fixed the link, but I don't speak HTML very well.
Got another scenario drawn up, and will post that one later this week.
