Suggestions for lances and decals
« on: September 23, 2021, 06:23:18 PM »
I have a number of the old citadel M series medievals I am painting up, they seem to represent mid 14th c armour i think (?).

I am missing a few lances for the mounted knights, any suggestions where I could source something suitable ?

Second ask is a source for suitable decals particularly for shields, given they are smallish. I would class these as 25mm figures.(heater shields about 9mm high by 7mm across the top)

I was thinking of an imaginary pseudo-fantasy free company with units from e.g. France, england, germany, Hungary so lots of leeway ! I will probably get away with mainly using hyw stuff.

Worst case scenario researching and printing my own doh.

All suggestions much appreciated!

You don't say how many.
Assuming about a dozen or so, get hold of
some Upholstery Nails (actually long pins,
mine are 47mm long). Squeeze the tip between
a pair of pliars, stick on a pennant (paper) &
(if you want) build up a 'cone' to protect the hand
with, putty, glue etc.

As to the shields:-
Raid any existing/stashed away transfer sheets.
See what transfers are available cheap on e-bay.
Many can be trimmed down and made useful.
e.g. Hoplite, Fantasy, Bomber nose art even.

Hope this is of some use.

I would suggest you look at the decal range sold by Magister Militum. They produce water-slide shield decals in a  variety of colours and patterns in both 15mm and 28mm.

Thanks for suggestions so far, I had forgotten about magister militum, I'll check them out. I will likely end up getting sample sheets from the main manufacturers to compare sizes.
As for lances, yes I probably need around a dozen, though preference would be for cast/ready made items. So still looking for more suggestions!

You can get a myriad of shield transfers to suit all sizes and periods for not very much here: link

As for lances... I take it you mean that you want the whole arm+lance as a single piece? If that's the case, and to suit a 25mm model, you might have some difficulty unless you are prepared to pay more than the parts/models may be worth! The simplest solution I can think of is to use some plastic kit arms (probably from Perry Miniatures), and then add ready-made lances like these or these drilled through the hands. Alternatively, you could try sending an email to companies like North Star, Essex, Warlord Games, Foundry, or Footsore and see if they'll cast up some arms from one of their knights range for you as a special order.

I have a few packs of various Mirliton 25 mm lances & weapons left.  The list is here - https://work.vexillia.me.uk/p/retail-stock-clearance.html

Have a look at the list and PM me here for pictures, price etc.  Will not be expensive. ;-)

Thanks all for the replies.

The fireforge pack looks useful, not sure if the diameter will fit "25mm" figs, but it's only a fiver.

Vexillia thanks for the offer, I'll drop you a line!
