Barbarossa 1941 - The Real Estate (WIP)
« on: October 06, 2021, 11:04:04 PM »
These are some of the buildings from my "Little Town in the Ukraine" 15mm project. They are converted from model railway buildings made by Auhagen. As you will probably know most model railway buidings are either too big (HO, 1/87 scale) or too small (TT, 1/120 scale) to really fit with 15mm figures. Auhagen however make a range called HO/TT which is designed to be used in either scale and which by a happy coincidence is scaled at 1/100, perfect for 15mm. I don't really understand Auhagen's strategy here as they also make ranges specifically for each of the two scales but never mind. The model references to look for are the 12*** series.
An example here is the Butcher's shop ref 12248. Built "out of the box" it will look like this:

The main problem here is the roof which is of the German double-pitched style variously referred to as mansard, gambrel, curb, dutch etc. These don't seem particularly common in Eastern Europe. The pitch of the roof as a whole is also too steep so I changed it for one made from a plastic decor sheet. Once painted it looks like this:

Here it is based alongside another building (a MDF model from Supreme Littleness):

This building is the Irish pub ref 12255, again with a new roof and scenic base:

This group is made up of two "House no1" ref12250 with a baker's shop built out of spares:

This pair will go on the other end of the baker's to form one side of the main street:

The last three are single storey buildings which involved quite a bit of slicing-up:

I'm still working on quite a few more buildings as well as the terrain boards on which they will sit. The first of these is almost ready so I should have some photos next week.

great work! And nice to see some eastern European miniature real estate that is not either a wooden hut or a destroyed Stalingrad factory (northing wrong with those of course)

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Don Fabrizio: Indeed. Wooden huts and ruined factories are relatively easy to source but that's about it as far as Eastern front terrain is concerned. There are no real urban buildings at all. That's why I turned to model railway kits. I should point out that I also have wooden huts (mdf from 4ground) and a destroyed factory (resin from Loic Neveu) so I have nothing against these either!

Beautifully done buildings and I like the bases. Any chance of seeing them set up as a town with the bases matched up?
