I am close to releasing the first of a new series of low-cost, 'Zine-like games that I will produce and sell myself. I will also sell them as PDFs, and the plan would be PDF buyers would get two files, one with the pages in conventional order, and one with the pages arranged so that you can fold the printed book into your own 'Zine at home.
Here's the blurb for the first one, coming in a couple of weeks!
Warzine 1: Fast & Easy Solo Techno-Fantasy Skirmishes!
Warzine lets you play engrossing solo, cooperative, or PVP games at the warband level. Grab a selection of your favorite models, a handful of six-sided dice, chits or tokens numbered 1 - 20, and a few pieces of terrain, and you will be set to explore realms of weird adventure and mayhem! Utilizing a rugged 3D6 action resolution system, the Warzine series of games offers versatile character creation and a customizable campaign system that gives you plenty to play with and a solid platform for you to tack on your own innovations. Roll high!
WZ-1 $5.95 USD
The above price will be for the 60 page hard copy. The PDF will be a little cheaper.
I wanted to do a series of projects where I control the production process entirely, so the interior "art" will feature a lot of miniature photography, with a few drawings sprinkled in. The layout and production will be spartan in nature.
As mentioned in the blurb above, this is my 3D6 engine repurposed to a skirmish game. I have spent the last few weeks writing, re-writing, and boiling text down to its tightest form. The doc is around 9,000 words of some of my tightest work, IMHO. Solo is in the title, but you can easily play it co-op or PvP. In terms of the physical book, if you've seen the old GASLIGHT rules, it will look a bit like that.
Embracing the 'Zine ethos, it leaves a lot to the player. It's a rugged skeleton for you to build upon. But there is some meat on those bones! It features detailed character creation, but very loose weapons/equipment/gear rules. It straddles the line between sci-fi and fantasy in a way (I hope) that suggests Rogue Trader. The campaign rules are fast and fun, and they're easy to build on.
And that's issue 1. I am thinking about other genres moving forward. Horror, Traditional Fantasy, Supers (naturally), Pulp.
So I am done yapping about the game for now, but I will post a link when it's ready.
