The most recent version of DBA simplifies this by having all movement (including recoils) in base widths or half base widths. It's a nice, intuitive change.
Tom Thomas, who's on this forum, has combined DBA 3.0 with HOTT 2.0 to make D3H2, which is excellent (and ports the base-width stuff over to HOTT in the process). You need both DBA and HOTT to play it, but if you have those, it's well worth contacting him to get the rules, which also allow you to have 'fast' and 'slow' versions of all the troop types.
