It seems a little odd to be playing at war when Russian troops are assaulting Ukraine in reality, so I feel compelled to reiterate that my passion for this hobby is in no way meant to glorify war. One of the reasons I like the "Old School" approach to this game, is that the soldiers with their dress uniforms and glossy paint, are meant to evoke a nostalgic memory of youthful games and intentionally look like toys. I am drawn to the hobby by the period research, the painting, the camaraderie and the strategy involved in trying to outwit an opponent. I am not so naive to believe in any way it approximates the experience of the combatants or the civilians caught in the crossfire of nation states vying for power. So with that said, I present a test game over on my blog inspired by the battle for Vimiero in 1808, during which the British were aiding the Portuguese to drive out another megalomaniac with designs on European land not his own - Napoleon in Spain and Portugal.
