Boundless - spanish tv series about Fernão Magalhães
« on: 05 July 2022, 05:05:45 PM »
Born into a family of minor Portuguese nobility in around 1480, Magellan became a skilled sailor and naval officer and was in service of the Portuguese crown in Asia. After King Manuel I of Portugal refused to support his plan to reach India by a new route, by sailing around the southern end of America, he was eventually selected by King Charles I of Spain to search for a westward route to the Maluku Islands (the “Spice Islands”). Commanding a fleet of five vessels, he headed south through the Atlantic Ocean to Patagonia, passing through the Strait of Magellan into a body of water he named the “peaceful sea” (the modern Pacific Ocean).[3] Despite a series of storms and mutinies, the expedition reached the Spice Islands in 1521 and returned home via the Indian Ocean to complete the first circuit of the globe. Magellan did not complete the entire voyage, as he was killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippine islands in 1521.

This tv series is about these events. Great series with lots of usefull stuff for us gamers.

Agreed it is rather good much better than the usual offerings... I was pleasantly surprised by the number of combat scenes and therefore inspiration for wargaming purposes.

Cheers, I’ll look out for that. The producers missed a trick by not retitling it as O traidor, for the lusophone market.

Still at least he usually arrived in the spot he intended, unlike his compatriot Pedro ‘Wrong-way’ Cabral.  ;)

Yes thanks. I did not know about it and now I am watching.
Another good one is El Cid. The clothing and weapons look right.
They do follow the real history with the overall story. Good battle
scenes.

Looks good. Hope they do Pigafetta, Enrique, and Elcano justice too.

Great suggestion! I am one evening's viewing from finishing up the streaming series I'm watching now (Season 6, Peaky Blinders). So, I was looking for a new series! Thanks...  :-*
