Raglan's Spanish Reconquista and Crusades Adventure
« on: July 05, 2022, 08:49:25 PM »
This new project for 2022 has started a couple of months early, so now very much looking forward to the gaming adventure to come in September/October.

Yusuf Ibn Tasfin's Hasham Guard Cavalry.

Heavy cavalry was rare amongst the Almoravids, but leaders would often raise units to act as personal bodyguards.

I'm looking forward to see this project develop particularly as your others have been so good. There are a nice range of figures out there with the Artizan and Footsore ranges being my favourites. Black Tree are pretty good as well

Andalusian Jinetes (light cavalry). The Berber tribes provided a great number of expert horse archers to the armies of the later Kingdom of Granada. The Andalusians bred the best horses in Europe and used them in the traditional light cavalry style.

Almoravid Berber Archers. Bowmen were an important part of Almoravid military machine, their massed archery being an effective weapon against the mounted Spanish knights.

I'm really curious to see this develop and to be inspired!

And I have to say, I love the little bits of text with each set of photos as well. It really helps to ground things.

Probably the same one I guess!  Did the WAB El Cid supplement back in 2003.  Always appreciate a fine mini army of this period.

Andalusian Crossbowmen - the Andalusians quickly adopted the crossbow as an infantry weapon. It became particularly popular amongst their militias, who fielded it in large numbers.
