Thanks guys
I am liking the stairs a bit more now. I think a hand rail is a good idea. I'll just need to work out how to do it ???

Anyway first off I would like to apologise for all the posts but I am finding that it is helping push the project on if I try to get things done most days and post some pictures of the work.
Also it is extremely quite at work at the moment so posting on here gives me something to do :D

Started some of the detail last night.
Started of drawing a grid on some thin plastic card, 10 mm x 5 mm rectangles. Used a sharp point to push a rivet at each corner of each plate on the top row but only two rivets at the lower edge of the other two plates
Like this.

Scored all the lines and snapped out the plates

Over lapping them I then glued the plates on to the side of the flying bridge, with the plate that has four rivets at the top like this.

Used PVA between the wood and the plastic card and plastic glue for between the plates to make it all secure.

To end up looking like this

The idea is for the flying bridge to look as if it has scale/laminar metal armour riveted in place. Trying to achieve a VSF rivet look but still keep the sort of medieval Chinese look I am after with the army.
Only a couple of hundred plates more to do ;D ;D
What do you think?

Wonderful idea about the armour. It looks terrific. :-*

Taking the easy option then  ;D lol

Brilliant idea - rather you than me when you get to those curves though ;)

I like that idea  8) Maybe some sort of finishing band at the top, like a sort of handrail thingy  :)

cheers

Not going to do the curves. The armour is only to protect the important people on the vehicle, driver and commander not the plebs getting transported. :D
So I am only going to do a strip like in the photo around the top of the bridge.

If you can get hold of them, the GW chaos gun muzzle replacements would work for the finials on the rail, and I might just have some  :D

I think two dragon heads may be overkill.

Been a while since I added anything to this thread. I need to get my backside in gear :D

Finished adding the armour to the flying bridge

and started building the controls for the bridge

The figures are there for size and also to balance the flying bridge while I am working on it

I have now glued the Flying bridge into position and have also started on the draw bridge at the back

The main build is now complete. I have left the boiler and the cabin loose for ease of painting

As you can see from the above picture I have also be adding the required rivets so I can call it a VSF vehicle

The above picture makes the wheels and pistons look a bit squint but they are not yet glued in place only some screws and bolts loosely holding them in place. Still some more detail to add to the wheels.

I have also started work on some banners and some other small details. I have the draw bridge to finish, ropes to the winch on the flying bridge and then it’s on to painting.
