Italian Units In France and vice versa?
« on: September 01, 2022, 07:57:47 PM »
While there are a few English-language sources covering the British in Italy, there doesn't seem to be any dedicated to the French in Italy, or the Italians in France.

Can anyone recommend an English-language source that covers the Italian units sent to France?

Or conversely, an English-language source on French units in Italy?

Or barring that, books in Italian or French? (I studied French for a few years but that was a long time ago. So, effectively, I read neither. I might be able to sus out meaning with a dictionary if I have to).

Strategy&Tactics #334 has a good 11-pages article about the italian Corps in France but in the sources there are no english books but a few a short articles. In italian the main sources are the books written by general Mario Caracciolo in the late 20', you can easily find them on Ebay:
"Bligny,Ardre,Chemin des Dames" 1928
"Le truppe italiane in Francia (Il 2º corpo d'armata. Le T.A.I.F.)" 1929

I hope that helps

FiatRevelli, I've asked one of my former French work colleagues who has an interest in military history for help. I'll see if he locates any information.

Here's info on the French troops in Italy who came over after the Italians got mauled at the swift Austro-German Caporetto offensive.
