Prussian 'Garde' Regiment (IR 15)
« on: 23 September 2022, 11:29:44 AM »
I've finally finished my Prussian Garde.  It only took me 26 years from start to finish...

Very nicely done.  The sort of thing that has me buying more figures!  I can relate to the timescale too!

Cheers OB!  Yeah, we rather 'did SYW to death' during the late 90s and the toolboxes were actually rusted shut when I went looking for them two years ago! :)

Very nice, I love the Seven Years War period but mine are 10mm by Pendraken

Thanks Frostie.  Yes, if I were starting the period now, I'd probably opt for Pendraken 10mm as well.  In fact, I did start a new period (ACW) four years ago and did exactly that.  I've already painted enough troops to do Gettysburg.  In terms of time and money, I couldn't have done that in 15mm.

Well, one doesn't want to go about rushing projects to completion, now does one?   lol

Nice.

I've actually toyed with the idea of doing SYW using Irregular 2mm figures.  I would never have considered it but they included some figures as a sample in an order years ago and I painted them up, infantry and cavalry - quick and easy and much better than I might have thought.  Talk about affordable and low storage overhead!  So far, sanity has interceded and I have yet to act on this.  But I am retired now which may mean I can qualify for being in my dotage and my hold on sanity might not be so strong anymore.   :o ;)

They look brilliant! And keeping up the steam for 26 years and finally reaching the end is a very cool feat!

Cheers.  Sadly the steam dropped out when the boiler ran dry about 23 years ago!  Thankfully we managed to get the old boiler fired up again a couple of years back.  :D

Mrs Fawr got inexplicably angry just now, when she looked over my shoulder and saw me writing about the old boiler...  :o ???

:D I hope she didn't think you were referring to her - in case she is the "chief cook and bottle washer" in ye olde domicile!  o_o. Or maybe she thought you were referring to her as old.  That is trouble mate, always trouble.  (Unless, like me, you married an "older" woman and get to tease about it from time to time - but not too often!)

Those are really nice.

Because I do one battalion (24 figs) represents a regiment I had to decide which battalion of the 15th to do. It came down as 2nd or 3rd battalion - 1st battalion rarely appeared because it was usually used to guard the king and his family / palaces / etc. (from memory). In the end the the question was decided for me when enough figures (suitable) for the 3rd btn came up on ebay (though with a few more officers than I would have liked). Ridiculously cheap, no doubt because of their 'niche-ness', being sold off by Wargames Foundry - I later found out they weren't quite what they should be - see links below.

Found these old pics of them, in various stages of completion, and the notes describe the foundry figures used as 'funny looking Prussians' with painted on collars.
