Really Old School Back on the Table

I think there's a strong case to be made that older, simpler figures can 'read' better on the tabletop than their fancy modern equivalents. I love the old Minifigs ranges, and you've done a terrific job on them here.

Those look great! Those MEs were my first “large” (dozens… collection of metal minis, and I’m currently working (way too slowly) on my own nostalgia project, although I am generally expecting to use Dragon Rampant.

Fantastic refurb on some stone-cold pre-hammer classics. Awesome. I especially like the wizards' excessively pointy hats. There's no mistaking those models on the tabletop. Looking forward to lots more photos of these.

Back then there was only one wizard figure so you painted him different colours for different wizards, here he's painted as Saruman.

About 5 years ago my brother found all our old Ral Partha Tolkien figs under his steps in the basement. We started buying them in 1976. I brought them all back to life and we play with them all the time.

When recommissioning old figures, do you favour repainting or leaving them in their original paint job (even if it’s Humbrol gloss )? As a follow up, if you opt for a fresh paint job, do you do them in an old school style of painting or do you employ current techniques?

I strip old figures that fall into my clutches and repaint - and I typically take much more care over oldies (Minifigs, Hinchcliffe, really old Citadel, etc.) than modern plastics or metals. In part, that's because there's much more room for adornment on old figures - blank spaces that are conducive to freehand. And in part, it's just because I like those old figures more!
