Arthurian/Sub Roman British and Welsh Kingdoms Rabble
« on: 14 January 2023, 07:45:30 PM »
OK, my first post of the New Year went belly a few evenings back when I dropped a couple of bases of 28mm Thematic Byzantine Kavallarioi an inch or so onto my workbench and pinged out three kontos (Kontoses? Kontos'? Whatever is plural for Kontos!)! Not exactly a great start! Dark images of the Great Varnishing Late Roman Disaster last year remerged in my thoughts! However, my "rule of three's" came to the rescue and pleased to be able to make the first post of my New Year; "Arthurian" British and Welsh Kingdoms. I've been asked to take part in the play testing of several sets of new rules which all work for the Sub Roman era up to the 11th Century. The Welsh were bought in 2007 and have not seen daylight since! "Shame and eternal shame, nothing but shame!

The miniatures are all from Gripping Beast's Arthurian Welsh range.

I went with the skirmishers first as I'm so used to that troop type legging it off the table ASAP that I find it hard to paint them up sometimes!  lol

A few more skirmisher bases then more substantial units will start to appear!

First of all, nice sharp work as usual, mate.  Of special interest as I am back building on my Welsh warband again after many years.

Secondly,

I've been asked to take part in the play testing of several sets of new rules which all work for the Sub Roman era up to the 11th Century.

Oooerrr!
Gods, monsters and men,
Will die together in the end.

Thanks Ragnar.

I'm not sure I can say anything about the rules sets as of yet. Best not to as the authors may not be too happy if I let the cat out of the bag at an early stage! :)

Beautiful crisp, clean, painting once again  :)
I'm looking forward to seeing the 'proper' warrior units.

Me too! I hate painting skirmishers as they're not usually around long enough to make it worthwhile  lol

Probably Combrogi (Warriors) next but the Teulu are very tempting too!

What a fantastic start! A subject that is close to my heart but where miniatures are a bit tricky to find...the ones from Gripping Beast always looked quite goofy on their promo pictures and the new ones from Footsore are too late for my taste.

Great to see your fantastic painting on these :-*

I painted many of those used in their promo pictures  lol lol

I love the Footsore Welsh as they are the only Welsh range which can be used for the 11th CE. They are definitely too late for my Sub Roman stuff though.

Great to see your fantastic painting on these :-*

Cheers again :)

Oopsie! Well at the time these pictures were takenI think your painting was already top notch, but we all have been accustomed to the general increase of skill! Also your pictures today are a lot better!

Really thinking about buying some know and selling my KS 11th Century Welsh

Slings - less arrows - of outrageous fortune?!  Nice.

For gunslinger: Have you ever looked at the Forged in Battle ranges of figures?  Not only the figures but the buildings to do the era.
