Wheels...

Buy the round plastic tubes from evergreen.  Largest size is .5 inches diameter.  Use that as your outer hub.  The spokes can then be made with flat, hex or round plastic strip.
Build up the tire with very thin plastic strip of .015 thickness.  Takes a bit of time, but within the hour you have a sandable plastic tire that can fit your hub..  you can also criss cross or lay down stripes of plastic on your last tire layer before you wrap it around, and you have your tread pattern.

For more precise spokes, you can drill small holes in the tube rim, and then thread through plastic round strip or wire, using putty to lock them in a central hub.

thanks for the tips, they'll be really useful  :).  I actually tried a similar method today wrapping strips of plastic round a battery (the only thing I had of appropriate diameter) I then removed the strips to give me an outer time which I then infilled with milliput as the front wheels are solid.  Its good to see I was on the right track by finding out how the pros do it ;).  I also tried to order some evergreen stuff but the usual place I get this sort of stuff from is all out of the bigger diameters  :-[ now that I know thats the way to do it i'll redouble my efforts to source some  :)

many thanks again

Andy

a quick photo update showing a 'dry fit' of parts of most of the parts, I'm fairly happy with the way its going together, as I've already discussed the wheels are the only things giving me some heartache at the moment  ;)

Lookin' good.  Will the wheel boxes be rivet'd up?  And where did you get that cool headlight?

thanks Mancha, from the pictures I've seen the wheel box is a single plate hinged at the top for access to the wheels so I didnt think there would be any rivets, though there would probably have been some means of locking it in place perhaps a nut or something similar at either side at the bottom one picture I've got seems to indicate something like that.  Headlight is scratchbuilt from plastic tube and greenstuff and a little bit of wire either side.

Really starting to come together. Very nice :-*
Still finding the squint shape very strange. Do you know why the original was built like that ???

thanks

I'm dont know for sure, the only thing I can think of is that the drivers position hasnt moved from the original truck chassis which means the builders were forced to keep the body full width at that point.  Whereas on the other side they could afford to cut the corner perhaps to improve vision or reduce armour weight or both - but thats just a guess on my part, if anyone has a definitive answer I'd also like to know  :)
