As you know, I'm tinkering with troop and unit lists for Ethiopia 1935-6 at the moment, and am looking at how to simulate the movement of the Ethiopians and Eritrean Askaris.  They were noted on both sides for their speed at moving through rocky terrain, especially the mountainous hillsides of the Northern Front.  A 3" move in rough terrain really doesn't do these chaps justice.

Last game, we tried allowing Ethiopians/Askaris to add 2" to all their moves in rough terrain; i.e. in a normal move they would go 5" (3" + 2 extra), in a Fast Move they would halve their move as normal then add 2" to the result.  However this got a little fiddly with the Fast Moves/ Charges (maybe we were just tired), has anyone else got an idea of how to simulate this?  I could just say that they move full move, but I like the random element in Fast Moves/ Charges.  Any thoughts?

Cheers

James

Should be applicable to North American woodland Indians  and Askaris in Africa to.

Also for other high quality natives like the Zulus and Fuzzy Wuzzies when in their home terrain. They were both noted for their ability to travel easily through terrain that is hostile to regular troops.

let me put it like this:

before we got fat asses for sitting in a coach or train, we all could have been reputed for moving fast  ;)

though maybe not as fast since we had to carry 30-40 kg of armour/pikes/arquebus/musket

so this difference can only work for colonial wargaming   :D

It looks like the colonial supplement is going to be my favourite out of all the T&T books.
