Escape from Aniron (part 5; The Final showdown added)
« on: May 18, 2023, 07:02:54 PM »
After our first FfoL Star Wars game (see: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=139598.0) I thought it would be great to turn it into a campaign of linked games to play with my son.

Jedi Master Vhing and company have destroyed the false Jedi beacon deployed by the Empire to lure Jedi that have escaped order 66, and are now trying to get to Master Vhing's starfighter to get him off Aniron.

A group of bounty hunters is waiting for them:

Master Vhing prevails, but not everyone of his group survives.

Good game, sounds fun. And your scenery using feathers is original and gives me ideas for my own...  :)

Thanks!

I wanted (affordable) terrain that really looked alien. When I saw the coloured feathers in a shop they reminded me of palm fronds and marine life (coral tentacles). I combined the feathers with dried seed pods plastic plant bits and fake fruit bought in a garden centre. Together with some styrofoam/expanding foam hills it is enough to cover large parts of the table and provide a really alien look for a reasonable price.

Good work, enjoyed reading about the game, and a great idea turning it into a campaign.

Through the valley of death

After evading the bounty hunters in Part 2, Master Vhing and company found refuge in a small Jawa village where they learn that the village and all neighboring villages are under the thumb of the local crime lord: Zenyatta Mondatta. Mondatta is the boss of the Invisible Sun cartel and requires all villages to pay tribute in the form of harvested fungal matter which can be transformed into profitable narcotics. This is very dangerous for the Jawas because of the highly toxic spore clouds that the giant funghi often release when disturbed.

The Jawas offer to guide Master Vhing and company through a valley covered with giant funghi to the headquarters of Mondatta. There Master Vhing intends to steal one of Mondatta's space ships and escape from Aniron.

They are betrayed however and Mondatta sends a crew to stop them:

Another action packed Galactic Heroes Fistful of Lead game where the good guys win, but not without having to leave behind several dead crew members.

Yes, Zenyatta is also sometimes referred to as "the king of pain"  :)

Great you got the reference!
I was browsing through my music collection and thought: these could be interesting names for Star Wars characters.
I played the game with my son and obviously he doesn't get the 80's-90's references (there's another 80's album title in the AAR and the title of a 90's TV show).

Get to the shuttle

After making it through the valley of death in part 3, Jedi Master Vhing and company face the evil crime lord Zenyatta Mondatta when they try to steal a cargo shuttle to escape from Aniron.

But as you might have guessed:

The heroes manage to capture the shuttle, but it's not over yet!

Nice ship and nice writeup. How do you find Ffol compared to other games?

Thx!
I like Ffol a lot, but I must admit I haven't tried a lot of other game systems like Stargrave or 5 parsecs from home. Did try 7TV and Ruthless for small skirmish games. They both have their merits but I prefer Ffol.
The card driven turn system, being able to use it for almost any period and its easy of play are a major part of what makes Ffol appealing.

I just picked up Monsters and Mazes to see what it is like, might have to try FFOL at some point. Thanks for the info.

Looks like great fun, and that's the point of playing a game :D.

Where is that space ship from?

Where is that space ship from?

It's the Paw patrol toy flyer.

I turned it into a spaceship for Star Wars (and other sci fi) games:
https://toomuchterrain.blogspot.com/2023/11/project-star-wars-part-16-more-ships.html

It starts with another toy ship (the Zurg mothership). Scroll down for the Paw patrol ship.
