Welsh, Scottish and Irish figures
« on: 25 July 2023, 09:24:27 AM »
Just having a mad think while painting up the Footsore early Medieval Welsh I bought in the kickstarter in June last year. Maybe I should rephrase that and admit that I'm also looking for an excuse to buy some of the lovely Antediluvian Scottish spearmen that I see on the website.

It would be cool to have a bit more variation in an earlyish Welsh Medieval army so wondered about adding some Irish and  Scottish though wondered if Antediluvian might be a bit late for the mix

As usual this is a project that might run away with me again, the problem is that I just have a oh look shiny gene (not a medieval purist)and it would be sensible to have some degree of clarity as to what might mix and could be use to tackle my Victrix Normans making inroads and building their castles in Wales. Would be grateful for some suggestions as my head is in the clouds (again)
I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colours. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns. - Winston Churchill

Kerry, do you really need an excuse.  Just buy them.

I thought you had some figures for the Barons Wars as well.  Those would be closer in time to the Antidiluvian Scots (only a 40-50 year gap).
For fighting Normans, you might be better to use Irish from 1st Corps or Crusader Miniatures.  I suppose Picts with their funny shaped shields would be too early  :'(.  There are plastic Irish from Groping Beast and Wargames Atlantic.

I've made a start on my Footsore Welsh - I backed the kickstarter but have just made a start on the cavalry

I’ve got the same set of models and they’re queued for 2024… but no way will they look this good!  Gonna follow this thread for inspiration. Subscribed!

How’d you do the shields? If transfers, from where?
Not sure if I’ll do unique shields like this or go all the same. Maybe all the same… I’m a simple man…

Thanks gents
Jack - they're a mix, some of the simpler ones are free hand, the others are a mix from backing one of the first Carthage must die kickstarters others from Citadel six custom design that I bought  a few years ago - err I think ???

How did you find the heavy cavalry?

Painted mine all up, but I’ve found their ankles to be incredibly weak.

I’ve just ordered a box of wargames atlantic horses to make up some ready to replace the Footsore ones when (not if..) they break.. :(
