Aztec city of Tenochtitlan
« on: August 11, 2023, 07:29:05 PM »
There's always a Hamburger Tactica coming. Next time the main theme will be city fighting. Don and me again plan to do a presentation together.
There are many common ideas of city fighting scenarios: Stalingrad, Berlin in WW2, Mogadishu, Bagdad und Kabul in more modern time, Rome in different epochs, Paris und Marseille during the French revolution. Even Peking 1900 could be an option, but we already had that last time.
Then Don had the idea of Tenochtitlan, interesting architecture, not so very common setting and again there are relatively new plastic kits available.

Don just threw some cool thoughts onto some paper. Due to logistic reasons I will have to do the most buildings. So better start early to make it to the show:

Don’s drwawings had to be transferred to a 120 * 120 plan.

Then immediately fpr the big pyramid. There is no need to do everything historically correct as we like it a little pulpy. Therefore I didn’t stick to four steps, but had to make the pyramid even greater doing five steps.

As we had a sunny day in northern Germany I went to the “garden” behind our house. Quality hobby time.
The big stair up the front of the pyramid needs a frame.  To imprint the stone blocks I need a rough surface. Luckily I had layed hands on some black styrofoam,. That will make things easier when the painting starts.

Stairs done without stone block shaping.

More to come.

Jhis was done at Salute a number (10+) years ago.  There were pictures at some point in time so you might be able to find them for inspiration.

Should be a fun terrain to fight over.

Give it an Apocalypto vibe.

This is going to be pretty amazing. Will the game be Spanish vs. natives, or tribe vs. tribe, like in Apocalypto?

I don't want to spoil the Tactica presentation too much, bit there will be some Conquistadores.
Meanwhile I have mustered some Aztec troops I bought back in the 90s in my favorite games shop that has long been closed. Didn't have time for more progress due to some renovations in the house.

to be continued

Sorry for double posting:

Today I had a good time for pencil work. Luckily we had some hard pencils at home. I really don’t like them for drawing or writing, but for making stonework in styrofoam they are perfect...

Next steps: roughen the surface of the stones and push some of them deeper into the walls. The step's stones need to be finished,  the top surface of the big steps need to be filled and then the paining can begin.
Maybe Sunday?

Impressive.  And I like the Apocalypto vibe idea.

I found a link to the Aztec game at Salute that I recalled.  Longer ago than I thought, 2007.

Thanks a lot for the nice comments!

Just a little update. Added some texture to the walls, filled the big steps

Wonderful! I remember climbing on the steps of a small temple a Xcaret- the steps are tiny and very steep!
