World Cup of Historical Wargames Rules Round 2

Round 1 is over and Round 2 will see the seeded rule sets enter and then its a straight knock out through to the final.

There will be one game set off each day for the next 8 days, each poll will be open for 72 hours.

We have 5 Napoleonic, 4 WW2, 3 Ancient, 1ACW, 1 Medieval, 1 Horse and Musket, 1ECW.

Or 13 Big Battle and 3 Skirmish sets (queue arguments about what is a Skirmish Game !

Apologies but voting will only count on Facebook, I appreciate that some people arent on there, but although enjoying, this has been massively time consuming so limiting voting to one source is the only way I can manage it.

I’m not a Facebook Wargamer so might well be missing something from what’s posted there, but I’m intrigued as to what is achieved by comparing two very different rulesets. I’m not being at all sarky but am genuinely mystified. For example, I can understand comparing say Pikemans Lament and Never Mind The Billhooks (insert any other ECW-esque ruleset) but I don’t understand what’s achieved by comparing ECW to Napoleonics. Each has its favourites I’m sure, but I’m not clear on what helpful info the results from that provide.

As I said, I’m not being sarky, just intrigued.

I'm afraid your a bit behind the curve on this one. The World Cup of Historical Wargames Rules is inspired by The Rest is History Podcast who have done a similar thing with a World Cup of British Prime Ministers and one for God's.

No one is comparing two different rules sets, people are voting for their favourites. We started with a preliminary round where any rule set could be nominated, that gave us 97 rule sets from 2,700 votes. The top 16 were drawn at random on my Yarkshire Gamer Podcast into 8 round 1 matches, we are now on round 2, where 8 seeded sets of rules enter.

It's not limited to FB (other than voting for the reasons explained above) its had a Rd 1 thread on this forum, as well as TMP, Twitter, Threads, Instagram and the Yarkshire Gamer blog.

It's a bit of fun and has proved very popular, sorry its not your cup of tea.

Thanks for the explanation. It now makes much more sense.

You are right that I’m behind the curve on this. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a podcast about anything and so The Rest is History role model isn’t something I know.

It would have been lovely to hold it across multiple sites, but as I've said before this has been great fun but immensely time consuming, to run. I just don't have the time do do a day job (which is actually 24hrs) have a home life and do this.

FB offered a central location to collate the votes. LAF is fantastic but more people use FB.

Time for Game 6 Round 2 brings together two very different rules, Black Powder and Too the Strongest.

So will To the Strongest be the Strongest again or will Black Powder drop their rule book on TTS and knock them out (literally).
