Agis Star Trek Away Missions miniatures
« on: September 10, 2023, 12:58:20 PM »
GF9s new game!

I will try the game soon, but as usual I will paint the minis first.

The Borg minis are cartoony in style and VERY big (around 46 mm tall), they look rather good on the table but unfortunately are not fitting to any other range.

Just see the comparison picture below with some Modiphiüs Borg!

The minis are more like pure gaming pieces, the names on the back of the base are a niece touch to identify the mini, but as said more like boardgame pieces (which they are).
Personally I would have liked them more in style and scale as the Modiphiüs minis.

More on my site: https://adpublishing.de/html/star_trek.html
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de

As always, great painting.

Personally I would have liked them more in style and scale as the Modiphiüs minis.

There was quite a bit of discussion about the figures over at boardgamegeek when the game was announced. This prompted GF9 to come out with this statement - https://www.gf9games.com/awaymissions/201/designing-the-miniatures/

You can see what the game looks like with the Modiphiüs figures.

I didn't like the figures at first, but as I started painting them and then started playing the game, they've really grown on me.

I'd say it's a dubious choice of aesthetics rather than a quality issue, but yeah I don't like the figures at all. I can't fault the painting though, excellent.
The relatively recent Aliens figs from GF9 are pretty good, in contrast.

Don't forget that wargamers are not the target audience here. This is a boardgame that uses figures.

Us wargamers may have the luxury of using the Modiphiüs (or other) figures, but I would say your average boardgame player does not.

This is the reason of my shock. They made great Aliens figures, and poor Star Trek. What happened to GF9?

The Federation arrives to save the day! Commanders Riker and Shelby. Every body knows Riker, but Elizabeth Shelby was a Human female who served as a Starfleet officer from the mid-24th through the early 25th centuries.

During the 2360s, she was noted to be a highly ambitious officer, on the fast track to promotion to the captaincy of a starship. Although her manner was abrasive, she earned considerable respect when she proved to be a valuable asset while serving temporarily on the USS Enterprise-D when the ship faced the Borg. And that was IMO the reason to include her in the Wolf 359 core box!

Have you picked up the Gowron and Sela expansion packs too? I'd love to see what you do with the Romulan uniforms.

I got them too, bit it will take some time.

Romulans will be very similar to my Modiphius Romulan minis.
