With some sets they also added figures or teams that were previously forgotten/ommitted. The Wehrmacht set received a sniper and spotter, and the hungarian team which received a bloke with a flamethrower and his support.

All in all annoying as I liked the metal much better. And from what it sounds like the consumer is once again played for jokes, still paying the price of the metal teams of before for the new Siocast teams (at least for a big company such as Warlord Games).

In terms of market share warlord may be rather large but they're not that large.

Sciocast prices that people have been charging are relatively comparable with other resin figures.

As much as I miss for example blister packs of three metal figures for $15, it's unfortunately not the 90s anymore and base metal prices have skyrocketed which make pewter figure production the hard to do at price points that are familiar.

Someone should definitely tell Eureka, Empress, Artizan, Perry etc, etc, etc that they are doing it wrong. ;)

To be honest though, the choice of materials is hardly WG's greatest sin. It's a long way behind the predatory pricing, the purchase of competing and superior ranges to let them languish or even not produce them at all just to eliminate competition and the mad woman's handbag approach to ranges.

Define predatory pricing, please? In my experience as a retailer for them they have been very generous in terms of margin are pretty good value per dollar although beaten out by other manufacturers now.

Do you mean scatter shot when you use the term "old ladies handbag"?

Italeri/ Warlord 1/56 kit. Produced by Italeri, rebranded by Warlord. Italeri branded version half to 2/3rds the the price in local retail of the  WG version. Same kit, same contents.

Warlord re-boxes of Wargames Factory plastic figures. Double the price?

Perhaps predatory was the wrong expression. Piss-take is a better description.

I get it, it's what the market will bear.  Personally, speaking they get very little of my custom as poor quality goods at inflated prices is not something I care to bear.

Understandable, and why most Independents like me offer them at as close to MAP policy pricing as we can.

I've just been putting together some Rubicon figures made with resin. The website advised that the contents were pewter but the blister itself says that it can be resin, pewter or ABS plastic (WTF?  ???). Always enjoyed a lottery purchase. :-[

Figures are nice sculpts, albeit a little soft  but I'm really not a fan of the material, it's like hard rubber or chewing gum which makes it a bugger to work with. Plastic Magic won't work, so it was break out the ZAP. I won't be purchasing anymore of their blister packs if this is the material they are produced in.

Oh and yeah I'm an '80s kind of guy, sans mullet.

Rubicon is certainly the best for Tanks and vehicles, but the detail they put into those is lacking in their infantry kits (I always swap heads on drivers and crew with left over warlord kit heads)

Don't write them off completely. I picked up a couple of the plastic boxed sets, mainly for figure conversion and spare bits. The hard plastic figures seem fine, it's the resin support blister that annoyed me. Even that is workable, I'm mostly disappointed that something I thought would be a standard metal set is made of (in my eyes) an inferior material.

My bigger beef with Rubicon is their research, some of their boxes and the previews of forthcoming ones suggest that the research, at least on non-vehicular subjects is rather slap-dash.

Do I sound like a grumpy old man? S'pose I must be. :)
