Confounding The Ogre- Iain Returns To The Peninsula
« on: October 15, 2023, 09:48:09 PM »
So, after a lengthy hiatus of several years, and now with an actual game system to work to in terms of force structure, I unexpectedly find myself returning to my long-neglected Peninsular Brits.

This purchase may have something to do with it

Now well invested in Osprey's Chosen Men, my (optimistic) plan for a winter painting project is to tick off 5 Riflemen of the 5/60th, a unit of 10 Light Infantrymen of the 85th (Bucks), and a 6pdr gun team. They will be led by my Exploring Officer, who I have handily completed-

If, by some miracle, I get all that done and the Napoleonic froth is still strong, it'll be a toss-up between another unit of lightbobs from the 68th, finishing a unit of line from the 44th (as nice as the Perry plastics are, I just can't settle to painting them the same way I can with the metals, which is why the unit ground to a halt two-half figures away from completion...) or a unit of Light Dragoons (which would also see me a spare figure to give my EO an ADC/messenger/bodyguard...)
Proudly not painting Wars of The Roses since... ever

Lovely painting full of character!

Good luck with your project. The peninsular is well worth it (even though I’m painting French).

Thanks, gents, very kind!

Not had much hobby time lately, so progress has been slow.

Made a start on a small 5-man (for now) unit of the 5/60th. The officer was the test-piece, and his uniform has ended up rather more "green" than I intended. However, it's probably fine for an officers' uniform, being higher quality with better dyes.

I went for a more muted tone on the ORs' jackets and am reasonably happy with the results. Not a particular fan of the green jacket/blue trousers combination, but thought it would be appropriate to keep the sergeant (if no one else) in regulation uniform...

Got the last two on the bench now, then it'll be onto some lightbobs of the 85th. And for some reason I find myself perusing the French section of the Perrys' site...

Very nice stuff, the Peninsular is a great setting, it’s where I’m concentrating ATM to.

Thanks guys!

Lol, repeat away, I am a shameless tart! It's probably a rather more painterly style than is in vogue nowadays, but I like it, and feel it works well on the tabletop. I hope to return to TSB soon, both in Lochaber and potentially Canada too...

Well, Merry Christmas, folks!

Having spent the morning repairing a my front fence that had blown down, I'm finally back at the painting bench.

Got the last of the 5/60th (for now) done...

So the unit is finished for the time being. Rifles being quite punchy in Chosen Men, I'll leave these at units of 5, interspersed with the 10-man "musket" light infantry units. These should look ok on the table-

Now working on the 85th, and putting the final touches to a small orange grove, too...
