A nice friendly little game. Due to Vodkafan being ill & Westbury thought lost in Japan (don't ask).
we played a three handed Peninsular War skirmish. Using my home brewed rules, 'Embushcada'.
Background[
Loose lips have been at work. A wagon with gold hidden within is hiding as part of a convoy.
Each player is after the money, none will share, or even trust the others.
To add to the problems of the convoy, the lead cart has broken a wheel on the bridge.
The PlayersPortuguese, played by John, have some Cascadores & Line. They must allocate one of their
command dice to each. i.e. he could not spread the points around.
Austrians, played by Bob (Flatpack), If the standard bearer fell, the nearest Austrian would
rush forward & pick it up (i.e. swap figures. If the flag was in the front it would cost less for
each figure who advanced.
Guerillas, played by myself. A large group of fighters supported by a small group of Monks
& Nuns. To show due respect to the church, they would get whichever of my command dice
was higher.
539 = We see the convoy stuck on the bridge.
546 = The Spanish guerillas advance cautiously, well we had to as the (mainly unarmed
clergy) were getting all the high movement dice!
547 = The Portuguese, showing no Iberian preferential treatment, start shooting up the
Spanish. They were quite happy to even down an unarmed drummer & a Nun or two!
548 = I manage a desultory return fire, which merely persuades them to move to better cover.
551 = While we are busy with our own little war, the Austrians managed to get to the convoy.
It takes them several moves of searching, but the find the gold. It is hidden in the second
cart. A piece of good luck that it wasn't the one with the broken wheel. The only problem
was reversing the third cart then backing out the 'Cart D'Or'. As John & I were still busy
shooting at each other Bob managed this quickly.
556 = A point of the rules is that actions that reduce the danger (diving, retiring to
cover etc.) cost no action points, so apart from 'encouraging' the carter to keep moving,
the Austrian Horde scarpers very quickly
555 & 557 = Too little, too late the Portuguese move onto the bridge, but they figure, 'What the
heck, get that wheel back on & we've got a cart load of supplies.' Various comments
that it was the barrels on the cart that interested them most.
Dice were thrown, figures were moved around a nice table, cake baked by my wife was washed
down with copious tea & coffee, and a lot of Bo**ocks talked... RESULT !
