UVS in the Far East - Do not make my mistake 29/10/2024
« on: October 29, 2023, 06:02:02 PM »
At SELWG 2023 I picked up the recently released Samurai Warriors and the Ashigaru Warriors and Shooters box sets.

See the above link for box and sprue pictures.

Each box builds 24 figures (the Warrior and Shooter boxes have common body sprues with different weapon sprues).

Ashigaru

Three Samurai.

All need sword/scabbards to be added.
Now just need to start painting them.

They don’t look too bad.

Probably won’t get any though as I’ve still got a large pile of Perrys to get through  lol

Good design rather than my skill.

My previous venture into the period was the Dixon's range bought from Salute at Kensington Town Hall. They just did not engage me.

I have not assembled any figures with them yet, but these are the body sprues.
Samurai body sprue.

Ashigaru body sprue.

Size comparison of Fireforge non-puddle base figures.

Stargrave Scavenger; Samurai; Living Dead Peasant; Almughavars; Ashigaru; Samurai; Byzantine Auxilia.

While I slowly build the figures to make two mini-armies for Oathmark, here is a war band for Ronin (I do not know the actual points as I will be ordering Ronin shortly - this is based on one of the North Star starter armies).

The force comprises:
  • Hatamoto Samurai with heavy armour and Katana.
2 x Samurai with heavy armour and Katana.
    2 x Ashigaru with Naginita
    4 x Ashigaru with Yumi

The archers (I still have to add the quiver, sword and possibly slung helmets).

The invisible bow strings are a bit of a stumbling block - the bows are difficult to position so they would not foul the armour - I think they definitely would foul the helmets.

First bit of painted scenery, a bit of street lighting courtesy of Sarissa Precision.

Some of the pieces are a bit delicate, and when assembling can twist a bit.

Next up (hopefully) is a Rice Store.

Having learned that mediaeval archers holding the bow in the left hand shot the arrow along the left side of the bow, I blindly assumed this was how everyone worked a bow.

Unfortunately this is not the case.
