Hell’s teeth, pass the brandy orderly. We’re on watch here and the tedium is overcomin’. Seems the mythical Crusaders are worryin’ the authorities who are willing to let the innocent lie in slaughtered heaps but are none too keen on vigilantes takin’ the law out of their hands. Load of old horse droppings, if you ask me. Somebody with an overactive imagination fed by pure gin came up with these blasted mediaeval meanderings. Struth! I mean how can white knights from the twelfth century possibly popup here? Even if they have adopted the secret ways and the fighting methods of their erstwhile enemies, the assassins? Poppycock! Waste of damn drinking time. What’s that orderly? Figures in robes? Lots of them? Eh?
Thundering guns! We’re outnumbered two to one and they’re closing fast; flitting from cover to cover; we’re only getting the odd shot off and they are dashed hard to hit. Stap me vitals! Hand me a refresher! Did I ask you to pollute the nectar with water, orderly!? Blimey, they’re clothed head to foot in purple. It’s enough to give you an immediate hangover. We’ve spread the line out to stop them dodging through and they’ve concentrated for a breakthrough. The red ones seem to be hanging back a bit. Hired guns, I’d say. I can also spot those old villains; John Steed and the Fat B******d givin’ them a hand. It’s a bad show…
They rushed us. There’s no other way of puttin’ it. One minute we were a fine upstanding line of sturdy soldiery, an example to all; the next we were flattened. Barely got a shot off, there were so many of ‘em. Deceptive too. They were wearing armour beneath those robes and very nippy on their feet. Had to put up with the gallin’ sight of their chief, the nefarious “Hood”, gloatin’ over his victory. Well, once we’ve all been loaded onto the cart and handed over to the tender ministrations of Dr Jekyll, we’ll be back. We’ll learn ‘im!
Major Mistake,
In for Major Surgery.
May be a while.
The Crusaders:
The standard crusader is pluck +4, FV +2, SV +0, Speed 1, Chain mail, garotte or knife @14 points.
The “Hood” is the same but pluck +3, tough and inspirational.
The standard minion is painted in “Star Trek security red”. Which means we’re not expecting them to beam back. They are pluck +6, FV +1, garotte or knife. They can have a pistol or carbine in place of the combat weapon in which case they are SV +1 instead. They cost from 5 to 7 points.
The crusaders were deliberately designed to take out veteran military outfits. They had 20 figures in the above battle. The minions moved first and kept out of sight. Consequently, the soldiers had already moved when the crusaders charged in and were unable to break off and shoot them. Their use has had a salutary effect on the arms race which was getting out of control. From now on, we’ll be using companies from out of the three books and those on the web site only. Hopefully.
