Thargor's gone to North Africa/Afrika
« on: 09 November 2023, 11:51:14 PM »
Late in 2022 there was a rather spiffing show on the BBC (IIRC) titled "Rogue Heroes".  This piqued my interest in putting together an SAS/LRDG force.  I then discovered the DAK Attack ruleset and then earlier this year there was a North Africa expansion for 02 Hundred Hours.

So, I started out with a couple of Chevies from Warlord Games and also one from Rubicon along with a Jeep from each:

I need some enemy for them to attack, so have painted up a bunch of DAK (photos to follow).  One of the DAK Attack scenarios calls for a bunch of aircraft and I searched t'internet for some nice cheap, reasonable looking 1:48 Bf109s, eventually going for some for £5 ish each... a bit of a bargain I thought.

They all had different paint schemes when they arrived, but a quick spray of primer and a bit of construction later and I had something I could work with.  This is my test scheme:

I think it has come out okay (although I'm open to suggestions from those who know more about paint-schemes than I do).  I'm now after a source of 1:48 decals for 4 aircraft if anybody knows one/some.

Opel Blitz troop transport, Bowser and Officer by Warlord Games shown for scale (also part of my enemy force).

They look great!

£5 for a plane that size is a bargain indeed. You will need lots of explosion and fire markers for when the first group meets the second!

Thanks.  I got them from Ali Express and with a first order discount and postage I ended up paying around £11 for 4.  They may not win prizes for accuracy of modelling, but they're good enough for some objectives/terrain.

Those trucks and jeeps look good together!  And I think the Bf109 will do nicely...

I wasn't sure initially if they'd scale well together, but they're not too bad if they're not really close together.  Bizarrely the Rubicon truck is larger and the jeep smaller than the warlord ones.

They look fantastic! The chipping effect on the armour really adds a level of realism to the models- I love them :D
