Wild Wild West "Derailer" Tank disassembly?

Merde, how Google HATES that spelling...

Having gotten a second to leave intact for 54mm play, I would like to hack at one for a possible 25, or even 15mm monster.

I got the screws out of the main body, but am stymied by the wheels.

Has anyone, given that you chaps are all frightfully clever and this displays lovely rows of rivets, removed the wheels without breaking?

What does the WWW tank look like Doug? Is it plastic or resin?

Perhaps just the hobby saw is the answer?

They seem to go through the body, so it may be brute force or razor saw 

I have had some success with toy cars wheels, holding one steady while twisting the other one to try to break any glue that was present. However, with spoked wheels that could be asking for trouble

There have been a couple, loose, out of the box (on eBay) at not too dear, and one will remain mostly intact though painted, I hope.

I did try twisting and pulling as hard as I could manage, trying not to break the wheels in half. No joy.

I think I can cut off the narrow lower part under the (steel) axles and then cut down TO the axles. Might be neater with the wheels out of the way, but trying to chop the body was part of the plan.

Hey Doug!

How’d you go with your Derailer Tank wheels?

I looked at my open one and they appear to be press fitted and the axles have at least one ridge/flange to hold them on or locate how far on they go.

FYI I held a wheel on one side an with gentle force twisted the opposing one, it moved a couple of millimetres but no further, didn’t want to over do it.

About the same as my experience so far; haven't tried the cutting yet.

I am a bit late on this one but if there is exposed wire on the bottom near the wheels you might be able to use a soldering iron to touch the wire to add just a little heat to the mix and help loosen the connection.  Obviously you do not want not too much heat but a couple of seconds at a go might be enough to help break the bonds.

No idea if it would help, but the Wyrd Miniatures "suggestion" to disassemble their PVC miniatures for "The Other Side" is to put them in the freezer to make the glue fragile.

It might only work on glue joints on PVC.
