- Paint up a couple dozen figurines. Enough to field at least two opposing skirmish warbands. Then rope friends into playing a skirmish or two when they come over.
- Make more terrain. Put the packaging materials that accumulated over the holiday season to a good use :)
- Improve my painting skills... Overall accuracy and the painting of human faces in particular.

All this sounds doable. Baby steps. Anything else above this is a welcome bonus :)

Happy new year, everybody!

I've only got two plans on the slate:

- Paint up my Early Saxons to oppose the Romano-British I've already finished.
- Paint up the two Blood Bowl teams from the second-hand copy I picked up earlier this year.
- Properly sort out using Xenos Rampant for Superhero battles.

No doubt there will also be a few other unexpected things that sneak in...

Now that it it is 2024, I spent some time putting together my plans for 2024.....

https://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2024/01/random-2024-is-upon-us-what-is-to-be.html

Nothing too exciting.  I think the big project is to finish off my Hittites for the Battle of Kadesh and get it all ready set for demo games.  Then finish off the accompanying ruleset.

Beyond that I want to stay up to-date with Osprey Wargaming Series and maybe get 1 other new ruleset for the year.  Maybe finally get started on Naval wargaming proper too?  We will see.

For me 2024 will be.

1) Keeping on top of my painting, one of the things I acheieved in 2023 was to paint everything I bought, which gave me the chance to hit my backlog.
2) Not to buy anything new (unless I see it at a show or it's on sale). I took stock of my collection over the Christmas period and I've got enough to keep going me going for years.
3) Try and exceed my average of 3 games a month.
4) Try and get some paint on my unpainted scenery.

It's a very frustrating start to 2024 already!
I've got half a dozen projects, a gnat's away from completion, now temporarily shelved. On and off last year, I was writing and illustrating a Noggin the Nog type Viking  storybook for my Grandson. It was going to be done for Crimbo, but real life stuck it's sneck in. So now it's got to be a maximum effort to get him it done for his birfday. Before mi' lad terminates me, with extreme prejudice!

To finish something.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

To finish something.

Oh, good one! That would be a first time goal for me too.

I have a 600 28mm figure lead pile as well as numerous terrain items I want to reduce significantly in 2024 and not be tempted by anything new that appears.

Easily said.... ::)

Keeping expectations low: I like it!

Means there is a chance of achieving it - last year was pretty much a bust in relation to hobby time.

This way anything is an achievement and an improvement, and a I can be positive about it!  :D

I think it's mainly a continuation of 2023. My interests are sufficiently broad that there's no real need for any specific project. So:
  • SF stuff for skirmish level, and the odd unit or two for larger games (did plenty of the former and very few/none of the latter last year)
  • Fantasy stuff for skirmish and a few units for Oathmark. Managed a few of both last year, and have plans for Elves and humans this year
  • Contemporary. This covers modern pulp, post apoc, modern horror etc. I painted up some figures last year, but it tends to be the Cinderella to the other two. Hopefully, this year, it shall go to the ball
  • I didn't do much in the way of scenery or vehicles last year, something I need to remedy this year
Oh, and try to play games with them. That aspect tends to be where I fail miserably :(

For me, It's to continue to try to play/run at least one game a week (minis or RPG - my weekly group flits between both).  As for minis, I want to finish painting minis for my fictional modern(ish) genres - Northern Gambola in Africa, and Balzakistan (a former Soviet republic).  That will include some Balszaki regulars (primed and ready to go), some US infantry, and Russian Interior Ministry troops.  I will also likely do up some African civilians, and maybe a Gambolan DShK team.   I also want to work on some more scatter terrain, buildings, and vehicles.  Outside of that, I'll have to wait and see what I feel like doing...

I think 2024 will be a case of keep on keeping on with unsystematic painting efforts, plenty of skirmish gaming and maybe even get more terrain table-worthy.

I'd really like to be able not to commit to starting anything new, but it may be more realistic to undertake to not start any more new periods/genres.

I am planning on painting more pulp figures from the lead mountain. Probably will sell more rpg related books and possibly some painted historical armies. Possibly. Maybe.
Painted:  2025:539; 2024: 410; 2023: 37; 2022: 56
