Since I have my own site, I'll keep the thread there and post it over here once everything's done, if there is sufficient interest (i.e. if I'm asked to  ;))
Here is a link to my little project, though... http://mainly28s.com/how_to/model_build_coaching_inn.html.

It's going to be a generic coaching inn, suitable from the 1800s onwards. 28mm, of course (whyever would I want to do something in a different scale?).
I only began this on Friday the 13th  o_o of November, so haven't left myself loads of time. I may cut the project in half and only enter the main building, but as I want to eventually do both parts, I did all the cutting already.

A couple of pictures to whet your appetite...

The parts, cut and laid out.

The main assembly done.

This looks very good.

Not all the parts are on your first picture - is this a cunning plan to slow down plagiarists or just an "MFI instruction leaflet moment" ?

So this will be your current scratch build entry for the guild, I suppose? Argh, that´ll raise the bar if it is the fact...
Brilliant! We have one of those in our village. They still provide good food there! Mainly Schnitzel...

I hadn't thought of it that way- but I suppose it could be. As I said on the page in the link, though, I decided to add the outside walls after I'd built the main structure, so there isn't a picture of those strips before gluing them in place.

Yup- it is my entry for the contest! As for raising the bar? I'm not sure- it's been a while since I did any terrain-building, and this is the first real project since my mini-stroke last year, so it's more of a "grab the bull by the horns" attempt to prove to myself that I can still do wargames-related stuff. My attempts at painting figures since last year have been very unsuccessful. This might be easier  ;).
Schnitzel, eh? The last time I had that in Germany was at my grandmother's house- something I might need to remedy.

Some more work done yesterday- stone cladding on parts of the farm, the stable and the forge/workshop area.
More pics at http://www.mainly28s.com/how_to/model_build_coaching_inn.html, but a picture is worth a thousand words...

Bugger! Due to running out of coffee-stirrers, progress was halted this evening with most of the farm-buildings timbered...

Woohoo! OK, after re-stocking on coffee-stirrers, I managed to complete the wooden beams on the buildings, as well as the forge roof-supports.
I also added beams for the chicken-coop roof and pigsty roof (I've decided they'll probably be done using corrugated iron).

Loads more pics at http://mainly28s.com/how_to/model_build_coaching_inn.html

but a teaser-

I wouldn´t do. If you don´t either and leave other modern items removable, you can use this arrangement from the 15th century to modern day games! This one screams for French Musketeers or Napoleonic foragers!

Purely a personal dislike, but I can't stand Napoleonics  [See- I do know how to spell it and use Nappys correctly when I want to  ;)].

Since I have no interest in Europe after about AD1250 and before about AD1850, and since corrugated iron was invented in the early 1820s, and in regular use by the 1840s, I'm safe in using it  :D.
I hadn't considered earlier periods because I don't game them, so compatibility wasn't an issue for me.

That said, I might still change my mind... Would the gentlemen consider thatching as being suitable?

Of course, if I were making this as a commission, I'd look at a different roofing material for the pigsty and chicken-coop... Any offers?

Thatched roofs were forbidden in some areas due to the danger of fire. I´d go for slate tiles.

The pigsty may well be roofed with wooden planks. Pigs love water and rain calms them, thus a casual leakage is acceptable. Just imagine you were a farmer: How much would you invest in accommodation for chicken and pigs?
