Anhalt Dessau Battalion in Waldomen's Corps
« on: 15 January 2024, 09:39:26 PM »
Does anyone have any uniform information on this battalion/regiment that was part of the Hannoverian Brigade as part of Walmoden's Corps in 1813-14 that fought against Napoleon? Also, was it rifle armed or musket armed?

I know and have details on the battalion when it fought for Napoleon, when they wore green coatees faced pink, so I am looking for when they fought for the allies and a new battalion was raised.

Thank you and any help is appreciated!

Have you seen this document?  There were several battalions raised in 1813 to fight against the French; mostly jaeger, but one infantry and one Landwehr.  I've never seen an uniform info though:

Thanks Jemima, Yes, I have that document in my references. I am thinking their uniform is not documented. I was hoping there might be some obscure reference to it, but all I have been able to find is that in service for Napoleon!

Thanks again,

Terry

In that cast, you do have the right to invoke Jemima's Third Law of Uniform Research:

Once all known avenues of research have been exhausted, paint some figures in a random uniform that you like the look of.  Human nature being what it is, people are far more motivated to tell you that you're wrong than they are to help you in the first place.  Then, when they tell you you're wrong, ask for references and make notes.  If nobody tells you you're wrong, you still have a unit that you like. ;)

Jemima, That is always my very last resort. Fortunately, I think I have found he answer, just not written clearly in Nafzinger. From the way I read it, the infantry continued to wear the green single breasted coatee with green cuffs and turnbacks edged pink, and a pink collar and shoulder straps. However, I have also seen plates for 1809-13 that shows pink collar, cuffs with a green flap, green shoulder straps edged pink, and pink turnbacks. White shako cords for center companies and red for grenadiers and green for chasseurs (at least under French service). All betling was also black, and they are musket armed.

This will be he uniform I will go with and am leaning toward the pink cuffs and turnbacks just to have them be a little more colorful.

The regiment in 1813 was made up of 2 battalions. The first battalion was a line regiment of 4 companies made up from eh troops that fought for Napoleon, so probably veterans. The 2nd battalion was made up of 4 companies was Landwehr, and they wore a very different uniform more common of landwehr.

Excellent!  That sounds epic; paint it quickly before anyone contradicts you!

When in doubt, always pot the pink...

A great motto to live by.
